Your Car, How do you feel about it?

My Car: Clio 1.2

My feelings: It has 4 wheels and moves, not much else to it. It gets very loud in the cabin over 60mph and I feel like I am always changing gear to get it to move. At least it has been reasonably cheap to run though

I love Saab 9-5 aeros. I Fancied one for a while but they can cost a bomb to maintain from what Ive read.

Car: Fiesta ST

Feelings: Varies dependent on road. Hateful on motorways (too hard with Bilsteins, too noisy with a Mountune exhaust and the gearing is hilariously low). On a twisty B-road though its great fun. Still gets people/friends saying 'nice car'.

Of late I have got mildly annoyed with its rattles - think the aux belt tensioner is starting to go (common problem) but my local independent couldn't work out exactly what it was, so its been left for now, and this week the exhaust has come slightly loose and knocks constantly.

I do have a load of add on bits for it though which will make it pretty damn good (Quaife ATB which will improve the handling further in addition to the other mods I have made) so can't see me changing it for a while :)

My Car: Mondeo ST24

My Feelings: Apart from a few minor rattles and some body work damage that I need to get fixed it raises a smile every time I'm in it. It's comfortable to cruise around in, has lovely comfy seats and looks good.
But the best bet? The massive grin on my face every time I boot it past 3500rpm, fantastic noise and goes like stink. Fastest car I think I've ever been in.

DC5 and I love it, i should have got one sooner. Theres really very little i can complain about for a 9 year old car. My only niggle is the suspension is hard, but iam changing it to softer springs once i can get hold of them.

It looks amazing, it's quick, it sounds unique (epsecially with my new kakimoto exhaust on) the seats are the best seats ive ever seen in a road car of this sort of value and it's plenty big enough, has a massive boot, and it cheap to run.

Car: VX220 NA

Feelings: Great fun when in the mood and can make a mundane trip something to look forward to. Long journeys are very tiring and it can be a bit much. Parking is a PITA and it has the turning circle of a ship. Insurance in December is not going to be fun and the paintwork is taking a bit of a bashing being outside all the time.

I love it though. :)

Ammanford..... I used to live in Brynamman. I would guess your mate is Chris then?

Sorry for the off topic all!

How random it wasnt chris i was talking about but i do know chris as we were in school together and he is an opel nut also think he has nearly 30 cars are the moment in bits and bobs.

Im actually in brynamman :)

Car: Seat Leon FR TDI

Feelings: Still happy with it. Sure, it's a warm diesel hatch, but it's quick enough to be good fun and whilst the suspension grinds my spine down bumpy roads it makes it a good handler given it's weight.

Looking back now though, i'd not have bought it. 40MPG is just NOT enough for a diesel.

I fully expect to be in something else this time next year mind.

But it's old, and I don't like old cars :(

Last sentence is surely contradictory in terms? It doesn't drive, look or feel like it's old. The only thing that makes it old is it's reg plate and the fact that it's been replaced by 2 different looking superseeding generations.

My car: 1974 Mercedes W115 230.4

It's the only car that I've restored from the ground up and a car I can't see myself selling it. I wouldn't use it as a daily as it's slow, drinks fuel and is very low so speedbumps aren't fun. It is however very comfortable, and everytime I drive it, it puts a smile on my face!

Car: Focus ST
Feelings: I love it, I love the way it looks, drives, handles and most of all - I love the way it goes - ridiculous amounts of low down torque. It is however a bit too thirsty for what it is and 18" wheels suck - I'd prefer more tyre.

Car: Mondeo Ghia X - 2.5 V6
Feelings: I love the engine, it makes day to day driving painless. But I hate the lumbar support that is too high, and the 18" wheels for reasons for the reasons above.

My car: Mk4 Seat Ibiza 1.2

My feelings:
It's been very reliable.
Great for driving around town.
Quite economical, decent on fuel.
Plastics/interior feel very cheap and of poor quality.
Cloth seats stain incredibly easily, even a few drops of water will stain them.
Headlights keep on misting up, it's a common problem.
Poor customer service from the dealerships.

It doesn't really suit me at all but it has given me many months of cheap and cheerful motoring which is the reason why I initially bought it.
It can be very frustrating driving such an underpowered car when you need the power for overtakes, etc.
As soon as insurance is half reasonable from next year I plan to change car and I very much doubt it will be another SEAT.

Ride: DC2

Feelings:

Reliable
Impressive engineering
Cheap to run
Big presence
Big handling
Big noise
Rare

What more can you want really. Prob downgrade to a DC5 when i turn 23 ;) :D

Daily: Fez 1.25

Feelings:

The most reliable car in the world. Hasnt wanted nothing in 120k miles, just serviced + petrol. Soldier! Still doesnt use a drop of coolant or oil!

I must have been on holiday when you updated your project thread!
That, or I forgot :o

It's awesome!

My car: BMW E90 325 SE

Feelings: I love the sound over 4,000 rpm, but don't take it there often enough. Lots of toys, but some of them are hard to get to thanks to an older iDrive system. Even for an SE it is too hard sprung for me, and the oil consumption is insane for a modern engine. Overall - a decent stop gap to something better.

I disagree. It still rides well, and I drove one only the other day, and it still feels ok - not more than that though as they're ageing now.

However, they do now look old - no - dated is the better description. They're now 2 generations behind, and there are far more poor examples on the road than good - a sure sign that they're on the way out and good examples will start to gravitate towards enthusiasts and odd owners clubs.

It doesnt look or drive or feel old, no. Because it's in immaculate condition and wonderfully built. But it looks and feels dated, now. The interior is quite obviously from a previous decade now despite still being a nice place to be. It doesn't have, for example, iDrive, or newer fonts on the dashboard, etc. Most of the time when I see another one now, bits are hanging off and its a bit shabby, or it's at the local partworn centre getting some Linglongs fitted.

I now also drive an E60 and there are still many areas where the E39 is simply a better car. But the E60 just feels newer. It goes 'briiiiiiiiiiing' and politely tells me the tyre pressure is low and that I should only drive at 50mph. It tells me when the car needs new brake pads, it just feels newer inside (If not quite as well crafted, which really annoys me). Then I get out and walk away and think 'That looks nothing like as good from the outside...'

You wouldnt continue to wear a pair of old trainers when you could easily replace them with newer ones simply because you really liked them..

A shame, really, but this will be what compells me to change it - I don't need to drive around in an old BMW, I chose to do so simply because I love this car and it didnt used to be old. I'm hanging onto it for as long as I can as I enjoy it so much and the longer I wait the more choice I get for its replacement.

The hardest thing is that I know I will never again own a car thats so right in so many ways as the E39. BMW have not in my opinion built a car since that was so complete (Executive Car of the Year every single year of its production - nothing has done that before, and nothing has managed that since). Newer cars are better, but only because they are newer and things progress, not because they are fundamentally better engineered products.

And this is a damn shame, especially as it'll cost me considerably more than I paid for this car to replace it, and the 'wow' wont be there.

This car has reignited my love of motoring. At times I feel like a **** driving it because, well, it looks like a hairdressers car, but forget the image and get it on the right road and it's just fantastic. The power is just right, the handling absolutely sublime and totally involving, and the engine sounds awesome. Bought as a summer car but become attached to it now. It is making me lazy though as having a 2nd car has cut down on the commuting I did by bike.

Focus mk2 1.6
Had this for 4 years and it's been totally reliable. It's slow and a bit thirsty but incredibly practical and surprisingly fun to thrash. I keep thinking about upgrading it for something powerful and German, but I cant fault it really, and we have quite a lot of family memories associated with it now. Just had a valet done on it and it looks like a new car again - Ford materials are better than you might think!
