Your Company Cars / Car Allowance?

Scheme Type- allowance £462pm
Car- Porsche Cayman S
Business mileage- 1200-1500pm
Personal mileage- 100 pm
Fuel paid for (inc personal) or mileage allowance- something like 17/18p a mile
Rough tax implication- £462 is taxed but MAR reclaims that so pretty neutral

Just out of interest those of you who have company cars but do minimal work milege - why does your company provide a company car?

Surely the last persons dad didn't need a Merc E Class for 3k a year, so is it just to keep a 'company image' or something?

As other said its a perk of the job, in the past it was better because I dont think the tax was very high and all the petrol was paid for.

I think some of the other perks included free health insurance for life, free gym membership, free dental and few other things.

That is part of why my dad did not jump ship and move to another company, they may pay a little more but the overall package he had was very good.

Not really a car scheme as such, but I get 51c/mile mileage and paid travel time @ $16 per hour too, which is decent enough especially as 90% of my driving is work related and so reimbursed.

Depends on your mileage, one of the other consultants does a lot of miles compared to me (I take the train a lot) and for him the car works out better as he gets a fuel card and all fuel paid.

Mainly because I dug my heels in and refused to use my own car for work when I realised that it was costing me more than the 40p per mile HMRC rate I was paid for business use.

Guys,

Sorry if this has been answered.

If I get a car allowance of x and pay tax on that, and then decide to lease a car, do I still have to pay tax on the car I am leasing?

I suspect the answer is yes, but just wondering. I am probably being taxed for typing this post but hey ho.
