Your current Fish tank Setups!

Anyone have any good sites for buying bogwood/plants?

Not sure if i should buy a pre soaked piece or not.

Would there be issues cycling the tank then adding wood after its been soaked for a few weeks?

or would it be best to cycle the tank with the pre soaked wood already in it?

The piece i need will be quite small, i think my tank is i think a 26cm cube.

Yes, a lot of problems can be avoided by :

* cycling the tank
* not over stocking (better to under stock)
* not over feeding
* having decent filtration
* not skipping maintenance
* keeping your inhabitants in conditions as near to their natural environment as possible

Time and patience play a big part in this game. :)

I mean, what else are you going to do with your new GoPro?

Tank needs a bit of sorting out - gravel clean, fake plant clean etc.

So, I have my tank all setup and running, fishes swimming around nicely etc etc.

However, I have seen a little build up of algae on the glass, not lots, just the odd patch. I feed them flake 1/2 times a week and I'll do similar with an algae wafer (1 algae wafer per feeding and literally 2 flakes if that) so I don't think I'm overfeeding...

Is it literally over feeding? I think my lights are on for 6 hours I believe but I'll confirm when I'm back. The tank is positioned near a window but these do have blinds on them and it's on the side of the house so it's not like it's full on sun light. Should I potentially look at putting my lights down to 4 hours later after noon or something if it's currently 6?

Thanks all :)

A little bit of greenspot or green diamatous algae is pretty normal, especially in a new tank. Just scrape it off when it becomes noticeable using an old credit card or similar. Snails, otos etc will slow it down. If it comes back very quickly then it's probably getting too much light.

A perfectly preserved boxer crab moult :)

Yeah it's literally a centimetre or two if that, I'll keep an eye on it :)

Awesome pic K4AD!

Credit card Is ok, but for the sake of £6, you can't go wrong with the Tetra GS45. Done a great job on my glass.

having had numerous sizes of tanks over many years I find that the biggest factors on maintenance are :

Tank location (often ignored) avoiding long hours of heavy sunlight etc
Stock ratio, closer to max the more maint you need to perform
Keeping up with some water changes weekly/twice weekly
Real plants, helps avoid algae taking over as with some simple Co2 they will outperform the algae
Quality of filtration and good practices when changes are made (eg not using tap water but tank water for cleaning)

Just be ultra-cautious around your glass seams and sealant :)

How do you mean? Basically don't go around scrubbing the entire side of the tank? :p

Also, I'm on holiday soon for ten days, I can potentially get them fed two/three days in...do you think that will be sufficient feeding?

Just don't put the blade anywhere near your sealant, keep it to the glass (although robfosters has commented that the blade is inset anyway).

Took these after transferring from my old tank. New tank has grown out a lot so I'll post some newer pics at the 6 month mark (1 months time).

Cheers mate. Good to see fellow reefers here :). It's getting there but recently got rid of a few zoas as the angels were showing too much interest so thought I'd best cash them in before they became an expensive treat lol!

How are the new vortechs? I had the MP40wes but found them to be too loud even on reef crest. The Jebaos move more water but need more cleaning so was thinking of going to the QD vortechs or try out the Maxspect Gyre.

I really like the vortechs , really push some flow, only really heard on pulse modes when pushed in the 70%power range even then it's acceptable.
