Personally, I like using big on/over ear open back headphones to listen to music but prefer to use earphones with my MP3 player. I don't mind the decrease in sound quality but I do mind the poor build quality of earphones. The soldering that connects the earphone wiring to the ear buds is never that strong. They almost always break within a month or two of me buying them, regardless of how careful I am with them. For that reason I'm reluctant to spend more than a tenner on earphones.

Anyway, what are your favourite inexpensive (preferably around the £5-£10 mark) earphones?

JVC Gummy's.

Can be found for a fiver if you shop around and have great volume and pretty good bass for earphones. Mine didn't break, but were sadly nicked a few years ago, replaced them with my dads Bose in ear set :p. Pretty dam good considering he gave them for free lol.

I love the fake ones you get off the bay - specifically the Creative EP-630s - you can get four pairs for like £10, surprisingly decent sound quality for what they cost. Build quality is a bit lacking as they don't use enough glue but it's no problem to just put a bit of superglue in them to stop them coming apart.

I'm on my 7th pair in about 4 years, you can treat them as badly as you want and you don't feel bad about it when they inevitably break as they're so cheap.

They are canalphones though, they aren't unhygienic as they only go a very short distance into the ear, they are very comfortable once you get used to them (I often forget I have them in), they are much better for cancelling out noise and have better bass than buds.

With build quality at that price i think your best bet is to go on 'bay and just buy as many cheap pairs as you can get your hands on, then if one breaks you can just grab another.

I haven't used ear buds in a long time so I can only recommend canalphones. I love the sennheiser cx300's, some shops have them for £40, but a quick search online and you can get them for £14.

Great sound for the cost, and good build quality.
