But if you put this picture into paint and drag a section of A into B they are identical colours.

Or scrub around square 'B' with the eraser in Paint to remove the context. This removes the illusion and your brain stops compensating giving you the true colour; which does, indeed, match 'A'.

Or tilt your monitor up until you see the black squares are indeed white. And white are grey.
