I thought as we've got a month or so until we get the games of the year coming out from lots of places, we could start an OcUK game of the year debate!

This isn't official in anyway, just a discussion before we (possibly) hold a proper game of the year ceremony.

I'll start us off:
My game of the year is split between Modern Warfare 2 and Shadow Complex. Modern Warfare 2 was just like playing through an action movie I loved every second of it and didn't want it to end. The fantastic online multiplayer has kept me entertained for so many hours and I'm still loving it.
I'm not really sure why I loved Shadow Complex so much... I think it's just more than the sum of it's parts. I'd never played a 2D exploration game before, so I'm a newbie to the genre, but it was just so so much fun and I was absolutely compelled to play it right until the end. The storyline was also fairly intriguing, even though it wasn't very strongly implemented throughout the game.
Just another note, I base those solely on how much fun I have/had whilst playing the game. Obviously a number of factors contribute to how much fun I have, but that's the be all and end all for me, fun.
Honourable mentions go to: Left 4 Dead 2, Forza Motorsport 3 and Red Faction: Guerrilla
