More or less how I started (though C64 -> A500 -> A1200). As amazing as some GPUs have been since I got into PCs in the mid-90s, I think the original A500 chipset is still (in my mind) the graphics that were most ahead of their time.

yup, the ST and then the Amiga were the stuff a kid dreamed about in the late eighties. I was also bowled over by the Acorn Archimedes (especially the A3000 in ‘89) and it’s Lander demo in 1987.

As amazing as later Amiga games plus the MD and SNES were, I don’t think I was quite as wowed again until I saw Ridge Racer on the PS1 in 1995 and then GLQuake and Tomb Raider running on a Voodoo1 in early 1997.

Same here although mine went VIC20 -> C64 -> A500 -> A1200

Pre-PC era 1990s:
ZX Spectrum 48k
ZX Spectrum +3
Apple Mac Color Classic
PC era:
1997 - 2D card + 3dfx Voodoo
1998 - Matrox + 3dfx Voodoo 2
2000 - Creative 3D Blaster Annihilator Pro GeForce DDR
2003 - ATI Radeon 9500 Pro
2005 - Nvidia 6800GT
2007 - BFG 8800GTS OC2
2008 - BFG 9800GT OC 1GB (warranty replacement for 8800GTS)
2012 - Gigabyte GTX 670 Windforce 3X
2019 - Gigabyte GTX 1660Ti Windforce OC
2022 - Sapphire Radeon RX6600

I'll wait for the dust to settle in the next year or two before I upgrade the RX6600. No particular allegiance to Nvidia or AMD and I'm interested if Intel's Arc and future GPUs will shake up the market. Buying the RX6600 was the best option in the current market to pass on my GTX1660Ti for use in my son's i5 2500K/P8Z68V-ProGen3 gaming PC, which is currently running the GTX670 and showing its age.

Pre PC my gaming days go all the way back to pong.

had every console and handheld device ever produced, just wish I kept all the early ones with some of the games I had because they are now worth a fortune.

Now looking for anything with 8GB of RAM or more of around RTX 3070 speed/wattage (Intel, AMD or Nvidia) that is at RRP or below (RTX series been out some time now!).

I am never one to overpay for something so I will just wait and enjoy other hobbies. Shame my 5800X and other new CPU parts are severely bottlenecked...

I currently have a 3090. My last PC before I sold it and went to consoles was an 8700k 1080Ti build.

My next card is likely going to be whatever flagship Nvidia produce unless AMD really turn it around. I just think Nvidia are far too strong compared to Intel and CPU's.

I really can't remember that far back, but I'll have a go

Amd 3580
4850
5850
6950 xfire
R290 xfire
980ti
3080

And I am not even thinking next card yet. The market is insane now so I'll give this card another couple years.

v56
3060Ti
6700XT

6700XT ended up costing me virtually nothing after selling 3060ti. When factoring in V56 sale, i've had a free upgrade + a little on top, so I've made out like a bandit this gen.

This Sapphire card is great and i'm keeping it for as long as I can, going to get as much life out of AM4 as I possibly can, going to upgrade CPU next, 5600X or 5800X - if PC gaming continues down the path it is on, then I'm out, I'll keep system together to run old games, Grand Strategy games, MMO's etc and buy a console.

I won't be able to turn the GPU market in my favour again, so I'm going to make the most out of the free upgrade. Normally I would be going to AM5 next Autumn - but nah...I'm keeping my money.
