Just pondering idly, we've all got stories of how we got from x to y late at night in record time, always raises a smile...

I'll go first: NYE 2004, Falmouth to Bedford, approx 320 miles in 4 hours 20m. Average of roughly 73mph. Was an awesome drive. Left falmouth at about 7pm and was home in time for midnight. Saw literally a dozen cars on the way (one of which cut me up in an otherwise totally deserted Milton Keynes!), empty, open, awesome roads.

:D

My best is 23.9 Miles in 20 mins. Ok so the average is only a little over 60MPH, but considering mappoint/AA/RAC recons that the route takes well over an hour ;)

Probably no more than 60 on average on a larger journey.

More interesting is a B road bash of 12 miles in 9 minutes. :D

West London to Manchester in 2 hours 20 minutes - round about 195 miles.
Set off around 5am on a Saturday and had pretty much zero traffic on the way.

As a passenger in a '69 Dodge Charger Daytona - we averaged around 130mph on a quick run up the M6 Toll Road at 3am one morning, with a few short spells at a speed not that far below 200mph.

As a driver - 48 miles in 41 mins in the Seicento, Stretton to Coventry: A444, A5, M69, A4600, Cov ring road. Would have been quicker in a car that actually had some grip for the A444! :)

My average speed on all my long trips is generally 60mph, really strange but it always seems to be about that door to door.

Highest must have been when my gf was at portsmouth uni. I used to do henley-on-thames to the centre of portsmouth in around an hour every friday night.

thats the same for me. i seem to do just over 300 miles in 5 hours or so, consistently.
ive done it in 4 hours before, but that was at stupid oclock in the morning!

i've managed bristol city center to bracknell (~90 miles), in rush hour traffic, monday morning in under an hour  the really stupid thing was the monday befor it had taken me an hour and a half to do the 20 odd miles from Guildford to bracknell!

A forum member and I, along with another passenger and a car packed full of luggage drove ~590 miles in 6 hours with two fuel stops and a half hour stop for lunch.

that is really impressive, as you would have taken a good 15-20 mins to get to the m4 in rush hour!

Kenilworth to Huddersfield in just under two hours, that's about 135 miles.

It was even more impressive as we hit roadworks and had to take a 10 mile detour to pick up a satnav unit as [Huzeeee] blew mine up as we left my house :p

think it was a lucky run tbh, didn't take too long to get onto the m32.... but then i was taking the mic somewhat on the m4 :D

Milton keynes > Leicester

60 miles in 38 mins

Roughly.. mostly motorway and it was to my babies (yup twins) birth..

Best bit was I left 15 mins after ambulance and arrived at same time and I did run any red lights or speed in the town (3o mph) bits unlike the ambulance

no idea what avg mph that is

edit: 94mph OMG
