Your job

IT Sys Admin in the housing sector. Lots of experience, bit of travel, enough to keep me interested for 3 days of the week.

Sort of happy... it can vary from day to day. It has been said that executives only do the tasks that interest them and leave everything else for others. This is "very" me. It's perm atm but a new job is coming up involving setting up a new voip network with integrated cms for the company. Plan to move in to this on a bit more cash and lots of training and integrate myself more in to the business. A short stint in this with a few additional self certs and I'll jump back in to IT, head off to a large financial/development co and work from there, probably in a network or security niche. Hopefully progress a bit and sideways move out of IT at a higher level. Perhaps do some process mapping, risk/quality/compliance management.... pick up the skills for that then go onwards, possibly in to the financial market... economist? I don't know. I don't see a future in my current industry though. As long as I am picking up a skillset and wages as I go along I'm happy.
Aims? Well... to make as much money in the shortest time possible and retire... quicker you make it, the longer you have to spend it. I don't plan to be working after 50. I expect to double my wage by this time next year and double that again by the time I'm 25. Doable? Yes, I think so.

Nowhere near enough. More than 20k, less than the high rate tax band...

My job:

Digital Production Assistant - Taking Print publications and publishing them online in a page turning format.

The software is bespoke built for our use, I just do the back end processing and other odd jobs when its quiet.

My real aims are to be a designer of some sort. All my life I've been drawing, designing and photographing. But due to being tormented by a dire education system I've had to quit uni and get a job. Feels like I've missed out on a huge chunk of life and a huge chunk of paperwork to show employers I'm not a dork, I just need 5 mins to show you my skills.

Now I'm working I have no time or energy to to follow my creative dreams, but where I'm working now there is that open oppertunity to take that on. The company is very small itself. There's 3 of us doing the production. theres only scope of the company growing larger so we have the oppertunity to grow with the comapny, get paid more and be above newer employees in the future.

They have a good and fair business concept and the office is nice to work in. Very relaxed most of the times. When it takes two interviews to get a 12.5k job, you know you're entering an elite of somesort, and they want you for your future possibilites, and not just the now.

My pay, 12.5pa. Not bad, average graduate salary which isn't bad as I didn't finish uni.

I feel I could be doing a lot more in my job, if not a lot more in life in general. I need that kick up the backside though. I need advice on what to do :s

I see myself working for myself. Where I live lacks in decent technology stores, but then we have the OCUKs of the world who can deliver next day at the touh of a few buttons. We'll see, one day.

What's your job?

Community Manager for an MMORPG.

Are you happy with your job, is it temporary, what job/career do you aim for?

Yesh, i'm happy at the moment. The amount of work I have to do is ridiculous though, and the amount of non paid overtime can make you sick. Other than that; the people I work with are great, i'm doing something I enjoy doing and time really does fly during the day! :D

Eventually I would like to go into design, but not for a while so it's all good.

How much do you earn? (Personal)

Would rather not say :).

What's your job?

I also have a sideline that is quite profitable - i scan companies email for spam + virus scanning.

Are you happy with your job, is it temporary, what job/career do you aim for?

Yes i am, its great experience. I hope to stay in the hosting sector since thats all i've been doing since the age of 16.

How much do you earn? (Personal)

Enough to buy a MK5 golf GTI and save up for a deposit on a house!
Not enough to retire :(

What's your job?
Current: Commercial Technician at Caterpillar
New: Commodity Buyer for Rolls-Royce Aerospace

Are you happy with your job, is it temporary, what job/career do you aim for?
Yes I am happy in my current job. Up until a few weeks ago I was really enjoying it. I've been given a lot of responsibility and it's really helped my confidence and professionalism. However, responsibility was a direct result of having a poor employee further up the chain, and it's become more and more apparent that the person who should be doing this work is actually getting away with not doing much at all. It's all become a bit frustrating, but it's not the reason I'm leaving. I'm leaving because I've been offered an absolutely amazing opportunity, and I'd be a numpty to turn it down. Can't wait to start my new role. It's a huge step and I'm so excited/nervous all at once.

I didn't mean to get into this career, I just sort of fell into it. My degree is in Biology and I still love the subject, but I'd never make a living out of it. I'm really enjoying this career and am just about to sit exams for my first step towards a professional qualification.

How much do you earn? (Personal)
At the moment? Far less than I should be. In my new role? Lots more... enough to afford a mortgage. Hurah!

What's your job?

Systems engineer for an IT consultancy company.

Are you happy with your job, is it temporary, what job/career do you aim for?

My job initially started as a placement year for uni. I then tried to finish my degree part time and work which didn't work out. About to hand my notice in and leave for uni and operation.

Happy? Yes on the whole although my living conditions suck which doesn't help.

I would like to do the same kind of job after uni, either that or something completely out of the IT sector.

How much do you earn? (Personal)

Not enough (surprise surprise) but not bad for a "placement student".

are people with crap jobs allowed to post too? :D

job: order picker. go me....

salary: 13.2k the .2 is important ok.... :p not great but i know plenty of people who have to work much harder for less money so that keeps me going.

Are you happy with your job? - I absolutely love it, the job satisfaction is hard to beat. It does get very intense at times but it's all part of it. I go home form work feeling like I've made a difference which is cool.

How much do you earn? (Personal) - I don't mind telling because it goes up soon but it currently stands at £30k which I'm very happy with at my age.

Nice, I had a job offered with NATS but failed the final medical :(

Since January im a Design Engineer with Atkins Aerospace (WSAtkins) doing consultancy work for Rolls Royce and Airbus, I'm really enjoying it at the mo and its pretty good salary for an Engineering Graduate.

I'm a lazy jobless bum.

See sig though for future career :D Starting 30th july
I'm pretty happy with it :) And I'll be doing it for the next 18 years at least
During training my Salary will be £14k, moving to ~£22k on completion, and going up to ~£40k with time served/satisfactory service. Could go higher, based on competitive promotion.

Another one i failed the medical on before applying to NATS. Think i was due to start on £27k as i already had a degree. Really had planned to enter RAF as an Officer since I was a 13 yr old kid.

I've just started and im loving it, its temporary for 2 years due to the current force amalgamations taking place. I’ve always aimed for this kind of position but im hoping to get in to management or consultancy at some point.

I suppose allot for a 20 year old, although it is the public sector ;)

Job: Being a mechanical engineer at a steelworks its a bit of everything. Up until a year ago it was mainly condition monitoring/vibration analysis but the the last years its been failure investigation/trouble shooting with specialism in finite element analysis.

Happy: Yes. mainly cos the boss is a top bloke.

Aim: Plan to retire at early 55 if I can.

Money: Not bad for a mechanical engineer these days. Fairly secure job too which is the most important thing.

My official title is Call Centre Operator but I do so much more than that.

Over the phone I identify and supply glazing for Bus, Coach and Rail which is more difficult than it sounds. They aren't like cars, the manufacturers seem to pick out the glass for each vehicle and then build the bloomin thing around it!

When I'm not on the phone I'm doing general office admin, returns and credit notes, invoicing, filing, transactions, general enquiries, contract pricing and discounts, spreadsheets for various things plus I'm in charge of our company vehicle fuel and maintenance (we have around 65 company vans/cars)

I took the job by chance straight out of university and it was the first interview I went for but generally I do really enjoy it and its more interesting than I thought it would be.

I've now been there 2years and I'm earning just over £19k.
