Same here too, it used to be quite clear but I started a job where I had to sign loads of paperwork so I fell into a habbit of making it more simple and quicker to write.

An old tenant of mine used to write cheques signed with just her initials and either a smiley face or a sad face depending on the amount on the cheque, never had one refused or questioned.

Mine starts off as a squiggle then degenerates into a line.

I've seen all sorts over the years. My friend has a smiley face on his driver's licence.
