I saw a great review on a website the other month that I though was a brilliant idea.

The idea is to list a movie you love for each year you've been alive that either means something to you or you can simply watch again and again without getting tired of it or maybe a milestone in your life. A bit like "The soundtrack to you life" but in film.

Rules
- 1 film per year NO MORE!
- You can edit your list but only put 1 film per year.
- No more than 1 film per year.

Resources
http://www.imdb.com/chart/top - scroll down, left had side, sort by decade.
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Wiki - simply search "year movies" e.g. 2001 movies.

Good luck, Ive just realise how rubbish films have become in the last decade and how difficult it is to choose films from the 80's and 90's, the best years in cinema.

Here's my Life In Film.

1977 - Star Wars
1978 - The Deer Hunter
1979 - Alien
1980 - Empire Strikes Back
1981 - Raiders of the Lost Ark
1982 - The Thing
1983 - Star Wars: Episode VI - Return of the Jedi (
1984 - Ghostbusters
1985 - The Goonies
1986 - Platoon
1987 - Planes, Trains & Automobiles
1988 - Die Hard
1989 - National Lampoon's Christmas Vacation
1990 - Goodfellas
1991 - Terminator 2: Judgment Day

1993 - Jurassic Park
1994 - Dumb & Dumber
1995 - Casino
1996 - Trainspotting
1997 - Donnie Brasco
1998 - Saving Private Ryan
1999 - The Matrix
2000 - Chopper
2001 - The Lord of the Rings: The Fellowship of the Ring
2002 - City of God
2003 - The Lord of the Rings: The Return of the King

2005 - Batman Begins
2006 - The Departed
2007 - There Will Be Blood

Christ that was painful. So many often came down to two and I just had to lump it. I had to snub Indy twice for Raiders and Last Crusade.

I have to ask, did anyone find either of the following:

1. That as you got closer to the present day most of the top ten grossing movies didnt have anything in that was even worth considering (with some exceptions).

2. On a couple of years you almost couldn't find anything worthy of the list? 2000 for me was particularly void of films that really meant something to me (actually, scratch that. Forgot Snatch was 2000. Thankyou other thread!).

But anyway...

1980 - Blues Brothers
1981 - Time Bandits
1982 - First Blood
1983 - Return of the Jedi
1984 - Ghostbusters
1985 - Back to the Future (:( Goonies)
1986 - Ferris Bueller's Day Off
1987 - Withnail & I
1988 - Who Framed Roger Rabbit? (Can't believe I picked this over Die Hard, but I had to)
1989 - Back to the Future Part II
1990 - Back to the Future III (I saved up tokens from bags of Hula-Hoops to get a BTTF3 towel, and still use it as my gym towel to this day)
1991 - Terminator 2: Judgment Day
1992 - Wayne's World
1993 - Jurassic Park
1994 - Léon
1995 - Die Hard With a Vengeance (could have been Goldeneye but that was more the game than the film)
1996 - The Frighteners
1997 - Grosse Pointe Blank
1998 - Fear and Loathing in Las Vegas
1999 - Dogma
2000 - Snatch
2001 - Hannibal
2002 - The Bourne Identity
2003 - LOTR: The Return of the King
2004 - The Butterfly Effect
2005 - Wedding Crashers
2006 - Little Miss Sunshine
2007 - Mr. Brooks
2008 - The Dark Knight
2009 - So far, Star Trek, even though I was never really a fan before.

Edit: I may have to go back and change Hannibal to Fellowship of the Ring... but then I'd only change it back again later...

1988 - Grave of the Fireflies (Hotaru no haka). Only saw it about 5/6 years ago, but it's a very moving anime.
1989 - Look Who's Talking. My sister loved this film when she was younger, so I've seen it more times that I care to remember.
1990 - Goodfellas. Classic film.
1991 - Silence of the Lambs. 'I ate his liver with some fava beans and a nice chianti'.
1992 - El mariachi. $7000! Amazing!
1993 - Jurassic Park. I probably watched it a year or so after it came out and at that age, I was scared out of my wits!
1994 - Shawshank Redemption. Beats Pulp Fiction to the spot here. Very moving film.
1995 - GoldenEye. An average Bond film, but again, one I seem to have watched too many times with different people.
1996 - Romeo + Juliet. There are better films, but to sell Shakespeare to young people successfully takes a good film, so it deserves a place in the list.
1997 - The Full Monty. I remember all the posters up at the time - a pretty iconic film, I think.
1998 - Lock, Stock and Two Smoking Barrels. Definitely. I remember having to wait ages for someone to watch this with.
1999 - Cider House Rules. There are easily 6 or 7 films I could put here, but this film is full of emotion and somehow means a lot to me.
2000 - Gladiator. Easy. Fantastic film.
2001 - LOTR Fellowship of the Ring. This is the first time I remember a cinema audience ever clapping after a film.
2002 - City of God. I'm a photographer, so it appeals on several levels. Closely followed by Road to Perdition.
2003 - Zatoichi. Not sure what makes it so memorable for me, but I love it.
2004 - Million Dollar Baby. Very moving film. Unmissable imho.
2005 - Sin City. For anyone who knows Oxford, I watched it in the smallest screen of the smaller Odeon when I came for interviews - little more than a big plasma screen, really.
2006 - V for Vendetta. Lots of films that could go here, but this one is my pick.
2007 - Mr Brooks. He's a strange man, for sure.
2008 - Rock'n'Rolla. Didn't really go to see that many films last year but this was a fun one.
2009 - Let the Right One In. If nothing surpasses this, which would take a lot, then it's going to be my pick for the year.

That was hard and I did it all from wiki, which is by no means either representative or complete. They're not all favourite films (by a long way in some cases), but they all mean something to me.
