It seemed to be that people were thinking that the 2J was a bad engine, rather than fiddling with a 288GTO full stop was a bad idea .

I don't think anyone implied that the 2J was a bad engine - just that putting one in a 288GTO would be insane

I fail to see how people always compare real MPG of there current car to paper stats without considering the deviation of their real car mpg to its own quoted figures.

While the idea is not something that I necessarily agree with (I think a 1UZ-FE V8 would be an infinitely better choice if you were to stick a Toyota engine in an old Ferrari) people seem to be seriously underestimating the 2J for seemingly no other reason because it is Japanese.

Is it really that difficult to consider that the Japanese might have just built a 'better' engine?

i think youre missing the point.

imagine getting the most impressive, grand, magnicificent building on earth (the GTO) and then cramming it full of something totally out of place, something that really shouldnt be there, like the Valve Sound System, for example.

both separately, theyre fine, together, they have no place being in the same place at the same time

I hear this isn't quite having the effect McLaren were hoping for. In reviews against the Ferrari 458 is looks to be being beaten. Seems the clever technology in the suspension, while impressive, doesn't offer much confidence in what its going to do next.

Yep 5th gear didnt give it much praise.

The overall outcome was "Very disappointing"

Tiff said it was no fun and Plato spun it. Think there was a problem that you cant truly turn all the computers off and its a bit intrusive at time.

Let down.
