Your opnion on living in Britain

Why is everyone only comparing the US/UK system. Why not the French, Swedish, German etc..

These are all of high standard, they don't exclude people like the US, but aren't totally free like the NHS (which I guess isn't totally free anyway N.I plus prescriptions)

I am built to be comfortable in our temperature range, though I'd like a bit less rain.

Also I live in Bristol, which is a city that really suits me.

I like this country.

My girlfriend, who is studying in nz right now, recently hurt her back. The NZ system which i believe is quite similar to the UK system..public and private system available.

Anyway in NZ, she would have had to wait 4 weeks for an mri scan, another 4 weeks for the results and then possibly 6 weeks before getting into surgery. Instead of waiting, she flew back to korea and arrived on friday 6am, into hospital on friday 9am, mri scan done immediately and results immediately. Into surgery on the monday.

I can't even imagine such speed in the UK. Their system is a national health insurance system which everyone pays into through tax. All their hospitals and doctors are private. It also covers prescriptions which is very nice. It does have its own problems obviously...but damn that speed...

Dull, boring, degenerating, vile, predictable, mob mentality, collective intelligence of a sloth with no limbs.

I seriously could go on for many more lines, but this nation is just pointless, perhaps there is a cherry in everyone's lives, but the cake was ruined long ago, I wont deny people like holding onto something they know and like to defy change every chance they get if it doesn't immediately hand them some carrot on an extremely LONG stick.

The impact of changing to a service based society is just devastating to the culture and liveliness of this nation, the lethargy is just cutting a giant hole in this society.

The proof is there, all the man hours lost, people would rather spend a day doing very little at all, then they realise that they have not got the constitution to free themselves from the burden and must work eventually, others of course simply end their lives.

I find it all, sad.

Desperately so. :(

You sound like me a couple of years into living in Munich. I still love it there but after 5 years I could really start to appreciate some things about home.

Also I learnt to never listen to current expats when it comes to Britain. :)

Also you can't judge a country as a whole, there is NO WAY I'd ever consider moving to Frankfurt for example, it's an absolute dump. I would move back to Munich in the future if I thought the opportunity was right. In the same vein I'd never move to many places in the UK. You generally find that most people who moan about the UK live in horrible places.

Ye dont get me wrong, there are things about the English culture i do like. But at the same time, there is so much more freedom in mainland Europe compared to anywhere else, especially the UK.

I live in Hamburg, Germany. Maybe i picked the perfect place for me. I came from Bristol area, and albeit the 2 cities are actually fairly similar with regards art/music/lifestyle, there is just a massive different in daily life. There is a lot more freedom over here to go out, do what you want, and not feel like you have someone, or some camera for example looking at you.

England for me started feeling extremely claustrophobic, and not in a sense that im doing anything wrong, but the fact the country just isn't working as efficiently as other places in Europe.

Can't say I have ever felt limited in what I can do here, and I certainly have never felt like I am being watched too much, regardless of the amount of CCTV here in London. Were you perhaps being paranoid, or doing things that you shouldn't be doing and feared getting caught? :p

There have been times doing some things yes, but the amount we are watched in our daily lives in England just isn't how i want to live. I lived in a beautiful place in England, with 2 security cameras looking at my road fro the council (not a rough area by any means). I just dont like that. Some may say this is great protection, i say it is intrusion to my daily life.

There are many factors, firstly the amount of violence i see in Hamburg is MINIMAL. I cannot stress this enough. Ive been here for 2 years now, I party a lot, always in the city at night...most nights walking around the city, not just in the main area, but on the outskirts too, and not once, NOT ONCE have i seen a fight. Im really not lieing.

There are other factors - homeless people have the chance to earn money, to do their bit back for society, something England lacks (this is through phant and collection). Great way to start solving a lot of problems for unemployed people.

People also take action here. With regards to political movements and viewpoints, Hamburg is great. People dont ****, or get ****ed around over here. If something isn't working as a society the German people stand up and let the goverment know. England doesn't have the comradeship. People sit their moaning about what could be done and never get off their asses to do it. Or those who do never get much done.

England seems to be a society that is just stagnant. It hasnt changed much. Germany is the opposite. Its people have been cnahnged incredibly over the last 60 years, along with their society and stand point on daily life.

Wouldnt change living here one bit..its a progressive nation trying to change its wrongs and from my viewpoint it seems to be working.

I would also just like to mention that from reading this post it is clear a lot of the people posting havent actually lived anywhere else for an extended period of time so im finding some of the critics...well...typical English responses..

Oh and im not anti British, i love our humour, demenour etc..but i just dont see any advantages to being in England.

Just thinking about the heat. Never occurred to me.

I wasn't made for sun or hot weather. I find it uncomfortable and tiring. I prefer the cold, clouds and winds.
