Your Top 3 images of the year

This has been quite an interesting thread for me. I only got started this year, and to be honest I can't even say photography has been my main hobby. I've still got a lot to learn, and I'm still not 100% sure where I'm going. I will also say that I gave quite a bit of though about how to define my top 3. Being an old romantic, I've got for the 3 that I like the most.

I don't know why but I love this image, something about the colours just works so well for me.

This is from Purton Boat graveyard, an amazing location and when I arrived the light was perfect. I still think this image has a bit more to give. I was shooting RAW + JPEG at the time. On my camera that resrticts you to a low quality JPG. I never have got round to processing that NEF file.

This last one is an odd one. It's underexposed, and it's soft and it was taken with my awful compact. But I love the moment it's captured.

The thing is when I look through Picasa I've got loads of images like this with the next represented group being awful landscapes. I need to have a long think about where I'm going.

Thank you Raymond, top thread.

*Just to state i am a novice and my photos are put to shame by the majority of stuff in here. These were taken with my Panasonic Lumix FZ35 bridge camera:

For the sake of a few £/$ per month, it's worth getting an online backup as well, no matter how good your drive-based backup strategy (think theft/fire...).

I use mozy - signed up before it was launched in the UK so I'm getting unlimited storage (currently using >150Gb) for US$4.95 per month. Think it's £4.99 per month if you sign up in the UK now, but still well worth it for peace of mind.

will have a look on it ;)
cheers

Brill!

some brilliant pics in here, i'm not going into exact details but went to my camera club's competition last night and imo 80% of the pics were very poor technique or composition, plus the prints looked similar to thumbnails being expanded to a4 / a3 size...

Most of the shots on this thread would blow the images in the competition away!!

Great work and truly inspirational!!

Not sure I can limit myself to 3 shots as last year I was quite active with my camera, this year I have less time to get out but I try and make the effort when I can.

I've picked 3 different types of shots as I'm really not a specific type of photographer.

In no particular order:

My first F-15e in Wales, literally my 3rd or 4th time to Wales, we had nothing else all day but a pair of F-15s gave us 2 great passes. The weather was claggy causing a lot of vapour on the canopy and wings which was fantastic to watch, although it did mean that the image itself wasn't too great (I also only had a Sigma 70-300mm lens at the time and shot in JPEG as I didn't want the buffer to fill. I'd love to get this type of shot again with my new kit but every time I see this shot I just want to quit work and go and sit on a hill in Wales :D

A recent one but one that I like, even though I need to reshoot it to remove the gaps in the stars, other than that it worked out as I'd hoped and my first star trails shot that I am happy with. I love coming up to this tower, it's probably my most shot location.

I loved the clouds on this one, it was a great day weather wise and I spotted this lone tree on the way back from another shoot and decided to set up and wait for the right cloud to come past. It was shot with a 200mm manual AIS lens so a bit of a pain getting the right composition, telephoto lenses tend to compress images so I wanted to give some dimensionality to the image, so it's a relatively heavy edit but only to bring out the shadows and highlights that were already present. I also have a landscape version from here but I personally prefer this portrait shot I took.

I have many more I love, mainly landscapes and planes, as always still learning but I love just getting out with my kit and experimenting.
