Nah, the 8bit/16bit days were the best to grow up in with great games which spawned most of the great game mention in this thread on PSX:) Watching 2D games transform into wonderful 3D games.

Metal Gear Solid
Breath of Fire 3
Resident Evil 2
Final Fantasy VII
Rage Racer (way better than ridge racer ever was)
+ way more

So hard to pick a few, the PS1 had so many great games of all types. Strange that with this gen I cant think of 1 game that was so good I would want to replay in 10+ years.

The much forgotten violent future sport - Dead Ball Zone

One of my alll time favs!

(I could only find this demo recording)
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=4RNyGClQw8w

I remember playing the demo a fair few times for that. Back in those days I didnt have my own income so every game purchased was a big thing and I relied on playing demos a fair bit to fill the gaps in between. I've probably played 95% of the games mentioned but ive only ever owned a fraction of that amount.

Mine:
Final Fantasy 7
Tony Hawks Pro Skater 2
Future Cop LAPD
Gran Turisimo(always preferred the first one)
Wipeout 2097
Metal Gear Solid
Driver
Micro Machines V3
Warzone 2100

Never could get into dbz, too fast and cramped, not the speedball replacement for me.

Right time, right place, ill never enjoy gaming like i did on the ps1.

Single player stuff was great, variety being the consoles strongest suit, everymans metalgear was anothers x-com ect... For for me it was racking up with the bro 2up..

NHL98 rocked our world, as did Pointblank, soul edge had us fighting, linked up C&C had us virtualy kicking the *&(& out of each other behind back to back tv's.

Syndicate Wars, ill go there, iffy control, mouse and the pad!! Sweet game though.

Bloody Roar
Gran Turismo
Gran Turismo 2
Theme Hospital
V-Rally
V-Rally 2
Tenchu 2
Time Crisis
FIFA RTWC '98
Metal Gear Solid
Colin McRae Rally
WWF Smackdown
Crash Bandicoot 2
Micro Machines V3
Tony Hawk's Pro Skater
Tony Hawk's Pro Skater 2
Grand Theft Auto
Grand Theft Auto 2
Future Cop LAPD
Resident Evil 2
Destruction Derby 2
Die Hard Trilogy
Bushido Blade
Command and Conquer

Command and Conquer: Red Alert - Retaliation

Time Crisis was so awesome, every time we went away on holiday I'd always spend my time playing it in the arcade, then I got the lightgun and Time Crisis one Christmas. :D

FFVII
GT2
GT
Destruction Derby
Micro Machines V3
Silent Hill
Resident Evil
Resident Evil 2

Those are in no particular (well after FFVII anyways :p). Looking back on those listed, I would say that was the highlight in my gameplaying career, fantastic gameplay and worth the £30-£45 spent on each game.

Those were the days :)

My fave's have been mentioned in previous posts but I shall add Urban Chaos to list. Not the "best" game ever but I had a lot of fun playing it :)

Oh, and a game called Project Over Kill or POK - that was great!

Oooooh, while I'm at it - Overboard, Medieval and Nightmare Creatures!
