Your views on The Beatles?

In terms of my tastes no, I've never liked them. Saying that I didn't grow up with them, I heard maybe one song before I had already developed my own personal tastes in music.

They are definitely among the greatest and most influential bands ever though, that's unarguable.

Their certainly unique. No other band has or will ever be able to be quite the same, in that we wouldn't have any of the music we have today without it, and what they made is still fantastic and politically relevant today.

I love a lot of their albums, Abbey road, Yellow Submarine, With the Beatles, Rubber soul...
And I love bits of some of their other albums. I even very much like John Lennon's work and Paul McCartney's stuff post beatles...

A LOT of my favorite bands have been influenced by them.

Being from Liverpool and with two of my uncles who were in bands at the time of the Beatles, their music was everywhere when I grew up.

I like many of the songs, but as others have said, its not my "thing." I dont go out of my way to listen to their albums, however saying that, it is nice when you're on holiday and one of their classics is played. Everyone gives a cheer and joins in singing :)

What I do appreciate about the Beatles above all else, is the sheer variety of good music they made. Yes they had quite a lot of weird stuff, however unlike 90% of bands since the Beatles, they wrote and performed a range of music that spanned genres, and it was all unique quality stuff, and their sound changed with the age.

a bit ashamed to admit it but ive never listened to a full beatles album. i do like some of there stuff though

and i love a bit of mccartney

Good in their day but ultimately over-rated. They were imitators, not innovators.

The Stones are the real deal.

I have never seen the fascination with them, very basic pop songs for me, they were just the right band, with the right look at the right time, extremely lucky and extremely overrated.

One of the best bands ever, original, talented, unique and hugely influential on popular culture. Their music will still be played when we’re dead and gone. I have always enjoyed their music but for me The Rolling Stones are number one. :)

Easily one of the best bands ever. They took their music in so many directions, from folk to metal. Personally, I can't get over A Hard Day Night - what a stonking album!

I really like this short ditty:

Twee, but oodles of "**** you!" in there too. My love of the Beatles largely explains why I'm into Paul Gilbert.

Being born in 1958 and my Dad being in bands, when The Beatles came out he was a massive fan so I grew up with them.
I like the first 4 albums best and wasn't much for their later stuff but it's great to see a band experimenting and adapting.
They weren't original because all they did was copy Buddy Holly & Chuck Berry for years but because of their tireless radio shows and gigs they eventually cracked it and their own music was 'a little bit different' at the time.
Because of The Beatles we have a great rock legacy to thank them for and who knows where music would have gone without them.
Also remember that The Beatles wrote the Stones first major hit in about 10 minutes.

I can't understand the way people go on about them, possibly because of my generation I was born in.

Suppose when you look back at the massive success they had in their era then it kinda makes sense that people rate them so highly.. but I firmly believe that it is a generation specific opinion..

When were you born? I was born in '84 and love them.
