Hallo :D

Im a total n00b at uploading YouTube videos and have finally decided to jump into it. I went to a dance event last weekend and shot some video on my Canon G9 onto a 16GB SD card. I filled up 11GB of it with videos shot in .AVI format.

Im confused as to how I need to process them before uploading to my account and have some questions, could you guys please help? Thanks loads!

1. The videos are in .AVI format. What format should I convert them to for the best viewing-quality on YT?
2. What free software can I use for the above conversion process?
3. Does the conversion adversly affect the sound quality? I ask because my videos are of a dance event and I dont want the soundtrack messed up or somethin!
4. The current size of the videos ranges from 1.5 to 2GB in size, this is way too massive, what conversion process squishes them down to size ready for upload?

If you have any other tips do feel free to suggest. Thanks again :)

Videos can be...

* High Definition
* Up to 2 GB in size.
* Up to 10 minutes in length.
* A wide variety of formats

So you'll need to split the files up into 10 min chunks depending on how long they are. .avi should be fine for YT

Thanks dude - so no conversion needed I can just upload the .avis...ok that makes things easier although the upload time for one of the videos was 453 minutes lol so I stopped that for now. It was a 10min video.

You will need to convert them. 11 GB will take up to 30 hours to upload on a 1Mbit connection, and that's if it's sustained max throughput.

Encode them to H.264 video and AAC audio in an MP4 container. You can use something like Handbrake. http://handbrake.fr/

run the video through a DivX converter before uploading to Youtube. Save it in 720 format and Youtube will recognise it as HD.... even if it isn't.

Guys I loaded up the video in Windows movie maker but it doesnt show the video as a frame by frame kinda thing? Hope you know what I mean? It just shows like a thumbnail of the movie in the timeline. I ask because I need to slice it up a bit cuz its going over the 10min limit!!

Is there a freeware editor out there where u can drag a .avi into it and it shows you frame by frame thumbnails?
