Just decided that in case the PE bios was doing any damage to my x1800xt i thought why not just replace the fan now the warranty is gone
lol!
Now as we are all aware the stock coolers on the x1800's are well terrible lol! Anyways before the bios change i was getting a stock of 58degrees which then upped itself to 60....a HUGE 2degree hike
anyways load temperatures dependant on game were between the 75-80 degree mark and my god could you hear that fan going........Oblivion anyone? all i can hear in dense areas was that damn fan as it got louder then quieter then louder again......done my head in!
So time for a change? yes i believe so!
So finally the Zalman VF900 is released and OMG what a difference it has made to me!
Installation was fairly simple and the weight that stock fan heat sink carried is ridiculous and the card now feels a lot better lol!
The contacts on the stock ram are pretty abysmal too, basically pads and they wont do the job as well as the provided heat sinks with the zalman!
First time changing a fan myself so it was very easy.....amateurs no probs
Idle temps on the LOWEST fan(Completely silent system yay!) setting are sitting at a lovely 45 degrees which is a good 15 degree drop from stock.
Idle temps on the Highest fan (Louder but no where near the wail of the stock cooler) setting are sitting at an even better 43 degrees but to be honest the noise change is noticable so will probably mainly leave on lowest speed.
Max during bfme2 was 62 degrees which is a lot lot lot lower than before! Round about stock performance at idle
just going to test it on low fan setting with the same game!
