Do people really think that arctic monkeys record and strokes record are "great" albums (great, as in, hendrix/led zep/metallica/rem, great)? I mean, come on, no one will be listening to those records when this trend scene departs, it's forgettable music for a forgettable age.

he's not saying these are the 4 best albums in the world, it's just the first 4 they're doing, they're planning on doing a lot more
as far as the strokes goes he is of the opinion (with justification) that it is a massively respected album within the music industry, he said that of the four albums it was the one they had people jumping at the bit to have a soundbyte about it.
he made very clear that these have not been chosen on sales or anything else and were just selected by him and his production team as 4 albums they think work as a complete entity

i honestly dont know about the strokes album, havent really heard anything off it except the singles and of those only really "last night", but while it's not a classic, it's standing the test of time ok so far.
but the arctic monkeys is one of those albums where it's popularity sort of gathered snow as it rolled, so many people who never buy music or barely have a passing interest in music boughr that album. it definitely has something there, i dont think a great deal of it, but clearly thousands and thousands of people do.
Led Zeplin this evening helped me fly through college, they are ledgendary and stairway to heaven when they talked through it, ledgendary, made me get goosies...

Can't comment on the monkeys, but the strokes album is distinctly average. All the songs sound the same - the guitar work is talented but undistinctive, the vocals drab. Plenty of other albums out there from around that period I'd say deserve a play.
best album ever and made in "some french kids" (gods) bedroomas i posted earlier it isnt meant to be the 4 best, it is just the first of many they intend to do, i imagine as posted by someone else they've tried to make it cross-generational
