*** Zelda: Breath of the Wild ***

Anyone done Eventide Island yet? I visited there early on but gave up when I saw a Hinox and was being obliterated by Octoroks, but the quest/objective is really cool. I won't spoil it for anyone who hasn't been yet. :)

Finally taking a break from the game, it really appears to live up to the early review hype received. I am on this island and have a funny story. Managed to beat the Hinox (i'm still low level with 5 hearts), but on the objective item on the big hill, managed to lose it in the sea, dropped a sword near it to see if lightening would strike, and it did sending the item afar. So i now need to redo the battle all over again!!!

I resorted to using tree branches for that, took ages as they kept burning out, then it started raining so had to abandon it altogether. Once I had done it though I turned around in Robbie's lab and there was a torch leaning against the wall! :o

You seen that cube structure in the sea near his lab? That looks ominous.

D'oh! Haha. Maybe cause I've been hammering it the past few days stuff is getting harder to find. :( tons of mobs on the way back to the lab too

I flew to that cube structure(well..glided)... I died trying to climb it :D it's crawling with flying guardians. :/ who are scanning the top of it. So even if you manage to climb it you'll be toast Within minutes !

Tauren, I take it you've done the Lost Woods? Is it just a case of running around until you find the right route or am I missing something?
Yea!! I made it through with an bit of luck !

One tip I have is... put your shrine locator on. Cause there is a shrine located where you need to be headed. Took me a good half hour to navigate through the woods :D

Edit. I didn't take any specific route. It was all guess work. :p

I take it you've made it to the two torches further in ?

Playing on the wii u and while the game is great the framerate is terrible. Im getting the switch for my son in a couple of months so i might try it on that.
If this run at 60fps it would be epic

Neither version runs at 60fps, 30fps across the board mate. Sorry

I got the hardback guide too. I only use it when I am really stuck and I like to get 100% after I complete the quest for Zelda.

I'll admit, I never even looked at my MGS5 hardback guide till I'd completed the game. Just used a few bits to make sure I got what I needed for 100%. The Xenoblade Chronicles X guide I used a fair bit though, and it wasn't even that expansive, missing a lot of stuff. I ended up adding a lot of my own notes to that guide, being a large open world game and one filled with stuff (and % completion required for some quests), I found the guide was necessary for completionists. Unless one wanted to spend a few hundred hours searching for some things. Or if you did a quest with a choice and the choice had a permanent outcome (I made a list of those quests so I'd know when they came up that I'd need to be careful doing those quests).

The Uncharted one I've not even unwrapped, but that's because I've actually yet to play the game (which itself is also still wrapped). I like finding things out for myself in Zelda, so it's mostly just for the non-walkthrough sections like the lore and trivia that these guides tend to have. Or the first section that reads like a manual and reminds me that games don't come with physical manuals anymore! Thus to me, a collector's guide is the manual that we once would have gotten with the game.

Edit: Seems the Deluxe version releases in about a month. So that will be plenty of time to play the game and figure things out spoiler-free. I've ordered the sucker and saved a fiver on Amazon, due to my copy of the game not arriving on launch :D

Well the first Zelda on N64 was one of the first 'open world' games but more in a metroidvania style where you are limited where you can go until you unlock abilities in dungeons.

Zelda's have tended to follow a fairly rigid template until now, but this has thrown that out the window whilst still remaining very true to the Zelda tropes.

In short, most of the games were excellent but this is the best yet.

another tip is if the wind closes in you can sprint in the opposite direction to avoid it.
I just tip toed my way until the end!

I've only done 3 shrines at the mo. Way behind many of you due to real life standing in the way but thoroughly enjoying it.

Ah the game really begins after the introductory shrines. Shame there is no bank holiday in March!

I was doing ok with the gamepad, but couldn't resist and picked up an adaptor for my xbox elite controller lol, some button remapping and full paddles and my hands are thanking me.

Had a big grin when I solved the dark light in the eyes of the statue riddle!

About to face the boss battle in Ruta (big elephant), the puzzle inside and the whole elephant is just amazing and i had to resort to a guide...unashamedly as I was stuck for ages....

Same here, I really struggled with Ruta for some reason. I did the Goron divine beast yesterday and it was much easier, took about 20 minutes and beat the boss on the first attempt as well.

I got stuck too :p

stopping the ball in the larger cog to keep the gate open, to access the terminal was tense!

I was trapped inside!

I actually couldn't figure out freezing the waterfall and could change the big cog rotation with the truck's position.

Haha ! I think I hit the terminal just before the gate closed ! :D

I was stumped on blocking the water fall as well. Clicked in the end though !

I got there in the end was pretty frustrating though! I'm on to the challenge where I have to follow the Korok and that's proving equally annoying

Both this, and the Lost Woods in general suck. Getting through is more luck than anything else, crap game design imo. Terrible FPS in this area as well.

A very minor complaint for what is thus far an awesome game.
