Zombie TV Series - The Walking Dead

I liked it but as others have said, a mixed bag. I would say out of the 6 episodes I found half of them good, the other half below par. Bit of a shame really because episode 1 was really good and it would have been a totally epic series if they all carried on like that.

I get the fact it shouldn't be about non-stop zombie action, but a lot of the non zombie action was boring. I also think Rick's wife being was abit annoying, it's the same chick who was in Prison Break but I think they could have cast her better imho.

On the other hand, the many campsite scenes, doing laundry, cooking, domestic squabbles you'd find in a soap, they just served no meaningful purpose imo.

I hope when the second season does appear, that it is much more focused and doesn't dawdle with the domestic side of things.

I think you've missed the whole point of the show.

To see how these characters cope and survive together in a new and hostile world? Seems the point to me.

Unfortunately scenes like the ones at the campsite, didn't really show me how they were coping with the new world, as they were far removed from any danger.

Now the scenes in the city, where you had the survivors scavenging for supplies, evading zombies with ingenuity, and looking out for one another, tells the story so much better.

I don't mind the domestics and normality, they have an important part to play when done right, but when these elements overshadow the survival elements it makes me wonder why it's called 'The Walking Dead' at all.

Not really though, the plot followed the comics for all of 20 seconds before it diverged completely, anything after that wasn't relevant.

Yes really though. There were still spoilers and potential spoilers, despite the fact that the TV series went off on a tangent. And how can you say it's irrelevant when the second season hasn't even been aired yet . How do you know loads of the plot lines posted by the comic book readers won't be followed up in the TV show?

If you look at the title of the thread in question, it's "AMC's 'The Walking Dead' - Frank Darabont zombie TV show" (highlighted the important bit for you). Just from that, it's obvious (or should be) that although comic book fans are within their rights comparing and contrasting, they shouldn't be posting spoilers from the comics for episodes that haven't aired yet. Just common sense surely?

The comic book fans could have simply GTFO and made their own thread if they were so desperate to discuss it...?

Up in the air about reading the comics myself. If the TV show wasn't very good I'd be all up on that but the series was phenomenal.

When it takes up about 90% of the time and then doesn't use that character development for the main plot it gets a bit annoying in my books!

I felt there was very little 'holy crap the dead are walking' and a bit too much 'he taught us different knots because we were different! :('

Have you read the comic book series? Character development plays a big part, this isn't just some mindless zombie flick.

I think 90% is grossly inaccurate too.

i thought it was massive let down the whole series was pretty crap

Gotta agree bit of a let down.

Did not know there was a comic.

Judge Dread,if you liked comic you would not like film.

If you played resident evil, from playstation to dreamcast to cube(some good bits),you would not like film.

Original silent hill....enough said.

I enjoyed both the TV series and the comic, though I do see why people would appreciate a faster pace from the TV series.

The comics are great, but I'm happy for them to deviate from the comic just to see a different take on the characters (and in some way get 2 zombie stories out of it!).

Nope I haven't read the comics sadly, but I will try and get through atleast a few just to see what people are banging on about (I'm not a fan of comic books, I just don't feel they are immersive enough)

I do understand that it isn't some mindless zombie flick, and I respect that and enjoyed it for the first few episodes...but the very fact that there are zombies doesn't seem to play a huge part in the storyline, it just feels like a minor inconvenience.

I am usually the person banging on about how there's a huge lack of development in movies/shows, but with the Walking Dead, I don't feel they manage to effectively use the copious amount of character development. It tends to drag on and on and on without ever reaching a point that I care about.

*edit*

this isn't to say I didn't enjoy the series, I just felt it needed improvement as it started getting worse and worse as the first series dragged on. Very little happening for the 45 minutes or so....
