Will the imminent arrival of the 1060 in the budget sector finally kill off AMD ? Early reports state that it's a better performer than the recently released 480X.

Expect 5% more performance, 20% ~ 50% less VRAM and 20% more expensive.

We need AMD to keep Nvidia in line, Nvidia's prices are crazy atm.

Hopefully the RX480 will keep selling well, the extra vram and DX12 performance being a bonus for the AMD card over the 1060. Oh and probably pricing too.

RX480, especially custom cards will likely be the bang for buck sweet spot for a long time yet.

Let's be honest, if the 1060 is 15% faster and 15% more expensive, it will be the new lightweight champ.

It will be the new champ for sure for the people who really do care about power consumption.

I find it really odd that AMD pushed the power consumption aspect of their card so much, when they knew it pulled the same amount of juice as a 1070.

It seems like a ridiculous own goal, because now the 1060 can be as good as a 480 whilst sipping 40% less juice!

I used to have a 7990, I'm sure that card was a proper alcoholic :D

Unfortunately that's probably spot on.
It's not exactly difficult to predict what the next down down from the 1070 from Nvidia side would be like- £250-£330 price bracket, at around 980 performance but with gimped bus size of may be 192-bit or 128-bit, which make applying AA or running higher than 1080 res suffer greater performance hit.

In terms of naming/model number wise, it is likely that Nvidia might reintroduce the 60Ti again, as it they don't have both enough models going downward (since they shot the 70 and 80 card price up to £400 and £600). If they use only 60 but not 60 and 60Ti, they would end up with calling the £180-£220 price bracket card a 50Ti :p

1080 - £600 ish
1070 - £400 ish
1060 - £200 ish :p

Maybe £250, hopefully. I'm interested now that AMD won't have the 490 for months and the 480 is a bit meh.

The nail in the coffin for me with the 480 is the crap they have used as the cooler. It even has fake screws.

I know 3rd party coolers will sort that but it really makes the product look poor in my eyes.

And that lump of metal they have put on the core... it's like the crap that ships with the FX chips.

Cheap and nasty.

It'll perform ~10% better than the RX480 for ~30% more money and you won't be able to get hold of a reference one for about a month and aftermarket for 2-3.

My predictions. :p

Unfortunately I'm gonna have to agree, which greatly annoys me as I'm in the process of returning my reference 480 :(

I also think the alleged 3GB/6GB variations are stupid, I mean who is going to buy 3GB and think "yeah, that'll do me for the next few years".
