TRESSFX: A NEW FRONTIER OF REALISM IN PC GAMING

I'm amazed at how petty some people are on here, is there no way of keeping the Nvidia and AMD argument out of anything, I was sure at one point in this thread that it was just about a new tech AMD were coming out with.

Details aren't being released til the 26th so we needed something to fill in the gap :D

Par for the course in this subsection, has been for years now.

That will stop just as soon as features exclusive to just one brand goes the way of the Dodo, i think one thing we can all agree on is that can't come soon enough.

Won't happen until the following happen ;

1.) People stop throwing buzz words in to look clever.
2.) People stop talking about something they don't know.
3.) People start talking with just facts.
4.) People stop throwing conjecture in everywhere.
5.) People learn to not care about the brand.

Which, given we're all guilty of, isn't going to happen.

AbundantCores = humbug

I knew that already, although I didn't want to remind him some of the tripe he said on another forum.
"Piledriver will have the same IPC, it'll just clock really high" I said I'd fist myself if that was the case, and well, I didn't have to fist myself.

EDIT : BF3 isn't exactly renowned for its physics, if anything it's renowned from the lack of it in comparison to its predecessor.

"GPUs are absolutely not required to do physics. There's no benefit to putting it on the GPU"

Taking it in a broader context rather than aimed at primitive solvers for rigid and animated bodies and some limited rag doll/soft body effects thats one of the most retarded statements I've read on the subject in awhile... granted some of the improvements in the bullets library lately have made vast leaps and bounds in what is feasible in realtime on the CPU but even that isn't capable of feasibly doing game world level wide softbody and fluid dynamics in anything close to realtime and even in situations where it is feasible on the CPU theres a benefit to doing it on the GPU when you can reduce the processing timeslice by 4-6x in comparision to using idle time on current multi-threaded CPUs (thats including taking into account the GPU doing rendering alongside physics).

EDIT: The claims that PhysX is a carbon copy of Open CL with nVidia specific features is also way wide of the mark.

The high and mighty there spanking his children.

Good news AMD say this will be available to all GPU owners unlike Physx. :)

Thats if developers take it up, if they do it may change the landscape.

Someone please tell me that isn't an official AMD post? as I first imagined - theres no way someone from AMD would make a statement like "PhysX is basically a carbon copy of Open CL".

It is. You need to go and post a reply to him Rroff you sound like a bit of an expert. ;)

@Humbug can you snip the pictures please?

I'm actually in shock someone who works for the company in question would post that - I'm guessing they will shortly hurriedly edit their post and claim they meant CUDA all along.

The whole post is so criminally uninformed on the subject they are talking I'm (A) Struggling to comprehend thats someone who works for one of the companies in question (B) Starting to understand maybe why AMD fails so hard at it (somewhat a tongue in cheek dig).

You need to entertain the possibility that he might actually be right and you wrong.

I will trust you the forum url so you can say this to him. I'm looking forward to seeing the reply. ;)
