LG to Introduce 34-inch IPS 21:9 UltraWide (Model UM95) monitor

@mrk - sad news indeed, but not too surprising. I do hope that you get a speedy refund and, at least, you have a 29" monitor to keep you going.

At the very least I would have expected LG to have collected the monitor from you and refunded you themselves. With other peripherals and component parts the distinction between the retailers obligation and responsibilities to that of the manufacturer gets a little blurred and indeed contact etc is often encouraged by the retailer to ensure a speedier service. Whilst LG, for whatever reason, can't deliver you a working monitor they could, at the very least, have accepted some of the responsibility and sorted out the refund for you.

When this is over at least you will have the experiences you are now going through to help you to decide on which brands to consider for future purchases.

Best of luck.

I did Tweet to LG direct and their response?

... Contact my nearest LG office. The same office that can't do anything because they don't know anything :/

Hi there, I will give you my own story regarding warranty. I was looking at buying a 34 LG and then a couple of weeks ago a one of my Dell u3011 had a yellow line across it. I had purchased it almost 3 years ago from an auction site. I phoned up dell and they could not located the Service Tag on their systems so would not do anything. I called them again and got someone else - he asked for information - ebay receipt and paypal receipt and company name that originally purchased the monitor . I scanned them in and emailed him the information and he spoke to his manager and 5 minutes later he authorized a replacement and a refurbished 3014 was sent out for next day delivery. Now that's what I call warranty. This is why I will wait and pay probably the same amount of money for a Dell 34 Version.

Yup I have actually spoken to a number of people at LG UK support (Ian being the last guy who took my case on), the first person on livechat told me basically what they told Nexus, to use the monitor in daylight conditions (!) - I laughed this off and had a support livechat with someone else who wanted to see more pictures (hence the additional photos posted before here).

In the broadest sense what you have gone through and, to a much lesser degree, with what I did with my first monitor, is fairly typical of a company who don't seem to be able to take ownership of a problem and then understand (at the very least) what PR can mean when they get it so very wrong.

Unfortunately you, or so it seems, had two things going against you when you bought this monitor. Buying it from a EU supplier just makes it a little difficult to deal with and then LG themselves.

Wasn't it Gibbo that even admitted that LG have a track record of not being very communicative with OcUK?

I should have seen this coming but the 34UM95 covered my eyes with what it offered :|

You shouldn't have needed to see anything coming, as such. As you had the support of LG who, at least for me, seemed to be a good enough company to have had some assurances that any potential issues and problems would have been resolved with the comfort of their customer services.

When I first contacted OC about the missing screws (and then later about the state of the monitor) I was told that OC could not help me but I could just return the monitor. Then I contacted LG and their initial response was that they could not help me but I needed to talk with OC.

At that stage alarm bells were ringing and after the whole experience of dealing with LG and then the buying and returning etc my first monitor I will be better informed for future purchases.

I am not sure if I have much confidence in my warranty with this monitor but, fingers crossed, I will not need to find that out.!

The LG twitter response is a joke!

GAH! I want this monitor so much, but all these issues! The folks over at MacRumors love it though, and it seems they say Thunderbolt is the connection to use if you don't want issues.

If Dell brings their's out and it has Thunderbolt and not some nasty ass thick bezels I'll certainly get that. At the rate LG are supplying these it might even come out when there's stock.

Just because this thread is so messed up now with other monitors, how many people have the 34UM95 and how many have had to send it back?

How about something like this to copy and paste with your name? I guess you can add the lower models also for more clarity of what is going on in this thread?

Bleeding/Broken 34UM95

I think I will have to decide what to do with my 34UM95.

It is tolerable but honestly should I really have to tolerate any issues with an £800 monitor?

The back light bleed especially in the lower left hand corner is pretty awful, whilst it is only noticeable in dark scenes it bugs me when I see it. I am positive it is backlight bleed and not IPS Glow as I can move around and it remains constant regardless of angle or distance.

If as Mrk suggested LG are unaware of any issues with the panel then the chances of getting it fixed are virtually zero.

I have been on the fence about the issue since I received it (7th June), I've kept the packaging in immaculate condition even leaving it out next to the desk as putting it away seemed pointless if it had to go back.

I'll try and get some photo's but pretty much the only camera I have is my Iphone 4 and so the quality is pretty awful.

It certainly ties in with other things that have been posted online about suppliers and retailers being told to hold off selling them/stock being held back.
