GA-EX58-UD5 "squealing"?

I got one of these mobo's this week, alongside a Core i7 920 and g-Skill 1600 6GB kit. Whilst all is up and running, after a false start because the memory slots are in a strange order, there is an omnipresent squealing noise from ( I think ) the mobo.

I have seen this reported elsewhere, and it apparantly was introduced w/ the F3 BIOS ( ? ) which is what mine has by default.

It fluctuates based on load, HD activity and ( seriously ) if I scroll the mouse wheel.

Now, anyone know if I should be looking to return my mobo, there is a quick fix, or the hope of one down the road?

I'm using a HX 620 PSU, 9800GX2 ( both of which have been used in other PCs without issue, I've tried swapping in a GTX280 and HX520 w/ no effect ) and 7200.11 HD.

Cheers

Sounds like a squealing capacitor or coil. But it's odd that it would only start showing up after a certain BIOS, tho they could have changed power settings or whatever.

Usually it is nothing to worry about, apart from the obvious annoyance to your ears.

If it's really annoying then I would RMA it.

hi,

i've got this motherboard and the same problem ( both noise of motherboard and power supply ( corsair HX 620)

i've try to update firmware to F4r but same problem, i don't know what to do

You sure its not the GFX card as your probably putting a fair amount of load on the thing with the i7 setup and the GFX cards are more likely to be the source. When I used a lower power PSU my 260/280/4870/4870x2 squealed, with my new 1200w PSU it does it very occasionally on menu screens but no where near as badly.

I have the same board with the F3 bios and no noises from mine either. Would advise holding off on the F4 bios as well because Gigabyte posted that they will be uploading a new F4 beta very soon. Some of the earlier ones introduced more problems than they fixed which is why I am staying on F3 for now as some revisions caused BSODs before it even finishes posting!!

i've just seen that the noise appear one more time when i connect an usb key

When the processor is fully loaded, there's no sound ( i've try to disconnect and reconnect usb keys during bench and never hear anything )

I've try another psu ( the fourth ) and same problem, the sound come from the psu but the motherboard is responsible, i don't know how and what should i do

anyone with this problem should go to gigatribe website and download and install the latest lan drivers, theyve just released new driver and its got rid of the noise my mother board was making, just uninstall ur lan driver and instal the new one and ittl be silent

Mine squeals too, but only at stock.
Soon as you take the vcore off auto it stops, I figure its the voltage fluctuating so much that its causing some hum.
Like I said, only does it on auto so doesnt bother me in the least ;)

yes i used to stop it by disabling c1e halt state but with this new lan driver i can enable it now and it dont squeal at all, before it used to make a high pitched interferance sound that drove u nuts, the boards been great since so id deffo checkout gigabytes website for there new audio and lan drivers
