I must admit that I bought the aspire one mainly as a toy, trying out different OS on it. I`m also happy to delve in the innards in a way I would be reluctant to with an expensive laptop.

I soon realised it needed more ram and upgraded to 1.5 Gbyte a few months ago, but the 8 Gb ssd let it down in terms of speed and storage.

Over the weekend I removed the standard ssd and replaced it with a "Super Talent 32 Gb 1.3" IDE". The packaging states that it is for the aspire one.

If you have upgraded the RAM on your aspire, you will be familiar with the disassembly of the netbook, I had to unscrew the board to the right to get access to the screws holding the original ssd in.

In total it took about an hour to replace the drive.

Once it was back together I installed ubuntu netbook remix 9.10 on it.

It seems slower to boot, but once it is up and running it is notably faster than the original drive, the extra space is useful as well.

If I get time I will put win 7 on it and benchmark the drive.

Cheers
