hi there I get this annoying warning most of the time when i play games in windows 7. "do you want to change the color scheme to improve performance". it alt tabs me out of the game which is very distracting. if i choose the "do not notify me again" option it wont but when i restart my computer it pops up again during gaming. is there anyway to get rid of it once and for all? thanks in advance

I can't imagine anything more annoying than windows telling me something like that half way through a game!

What's causing it to prompt for the color scheme change though? It's not happened on my system once.

Go to your control panel and type "notification area icon" in the search box. You'll get a page where you can set your preferences. Go to Desktop Window Manager and select "hide notification and icon".
If a demanding program is being run windows will still change scheme and reset afterwards but it won't interrupt you anymore.

I don't think I've ever seen this.

When i run LOTRo windowed there will be a notification telling me they've swictehd aero off to allow for increased performance, but thats the height of it.

Just to clear up it doesn't change the theme based on the resources needed by an app, more for apps that aren't compatible with Aero.

True up to a point. A program that's incompatible will cause the change immediatly at startup with a "not compatible" message.
However, in this case (BF:BC2 for me) Windows notifies at a later point that the program could perform better if aero is switched off. In any event, the above procedure gets rid of the annoying pop up messages.

You are both correct. I have had Java-based programs switch my Aero off as they weren't compatible. I have also had my Aero switched off when running demanding games on crappy graphics cards! :D

Shouldn't Aero be effectively disabled during gaming anyway, i.e. not using any cpu/gpu resources?

I occasionally get it after exiting demanding games like Crysis, Stalker, etc. There should be an option to permanently disable the messages.

I am getting this messege quite often after exiting world of warcraft . My spec is.
Antec 1200 case. MSI Z68A-GD80-G3 board . i7 -2700K @4.2 GHZ. GTX 580 OC twin FrozR II 1536 Mb Graphics.Corsair Vengeance 16 GB PC3-12800C9 1600MHz RAM. Cooler Master Hyper 212+ CPU cooler. My graphics card was crashing playing WoW. I had to up voltage using afterburner.
Is this messege Graphics card realated?

Not sure which one it is you want but for the games that cause it can't you just right click game shortcut > compatibility tab > select to turn off desktop composition + visual themes (can't remember which one of those you want specificially but can't hurt to select them both)
