Just set this up on my Galaxy S as it's not set up by default. Didn't really pay any attention to it until just now so thought I would share my experience - It's free afterall to set up!
In a nutshell, what it does is allows you to view the mobile's current location via the Samsung website along with allowing you to remote wipe and remote lock the device too. Also, if your sim card is swapped out with another sim card it texts you from the new sim card showing your phone's IMEI number and of course as it is text from the new sim card you have the phone number of the new sim card too!
Set it up following the instructions here:
http://www.amitbhawani.com/blog/setup-mobile-tracker-samsung-galaxy-s/
Then when you have set it up simply go to http://www.samsungdive.com to see the phone tracker, remote wipe and remote lock features.
You can also test the SMS message by swapping out to another sim card then putting your old one back in again.
Hopefully this helps others out as it doesn't seem to be a well advertised feature of the phone, but it will come in handy if some little scroat nicks it. Unlike the iphone equivalent, you don't need a subscription fee either as from what I can see it is free from Samsung (I certainly wasn't asked for payment at any stage!)
