Hi there.

Brought the above processor to go into my Gigabyte GA-MA770-UD3 (rev. 1.0) board, but just noticed that on Gigabytes website it doesnt show that CPU as being supported. In fact looking at other Gigabyte boards, that CPU is nowhere on their lists.

Has anyone tried it in their board? Or does anyone think that it should work fine in my board once Ive installed the latest BIOS?

Might sound daft you could always go with the 965 which your board supports and overclock to and beyond the 970!

I don't think there is any technically differences between the 2 - If you see what I mean :)

Ive already brought the processor: do you really think I have another £150 to throw away? Besides which, I hate overclocking anyway

1. How long ago did you buy it as you can possible return it and swop it under DSR?

2. People are trying to help no need to get agrressive.

3. You state you hate overclocking but technically your chip is overclocked (it is a 955 really).

4. Do more research next time.

5. Just stick it in and see what happens. ;)

Missed the bit regards you already bought the cpu the second time round!

Like mentioned previously by papaLazaru are you still within the 7 day cooling off period.

Problem with the chip it's 140w and some boards don't like higher wattage chips, not sure what will happen though?

Have tried emailing Gigabyte, they may sent a updated BETA BIOS.

It should pick up the chip fine, after all it's pretty much speed bumped 965.

However, since it's higher wattage than the recommended for board, I'd pass on OCing the chip or at least try not to increase volts otherwise you might either melt the mobo a bit !
