Hi Guys,

I am a bit confused over this one, maybe one of you can help me.

I have a Cisco 1841, which I use for my home router using the WIC-1ADSL card this worked fine. My line has now been updated to a 21CN line, so I have access to a ADSL2+ connection. To access the ADSL2+ service I have been using a little Netgear, just to tie me over till the HWIC-1ADSL card arrived.

Now here is the problem:

Cisco 1841 + WIC-1ADSL - Sync fine, ATM Status up, Internet Access

Cisco 1841 + HWIC-1ADSL - Sync fine, ATM Status down/up/down etc.., No Internet Access

IOS Version: c1841-advipservicesk9-mz.151-3.T

Has anyone else come across this kind of behaviour, on a Cisco device? I have read a few threads on HWIC firmware not getting on with some IOS versions.

I was going to try running a older IOS to see if this helps or a firmware upgrade on the card.

Or is the card faulty?

Thanks

Many moons ago I was in the same situation.
There is a problem with certain IOS' and certain firmware of card, so you'd can upgrade either.

I ended up doing both and the problem was solved. I had a dig through some old stuff but I can't find what versions of IOS and firmware I had

You really ought to be using 4.0.0.18 firmware or newer on the HWIC-1ADSL. Earlier firmwares had a problem with SNR drift where you can end up with negative values, resulting in disconnections!

We've had all sorts of problems with the 15 series firmware, so I can't comment if there are any caveats to it's use.

I also have IOS c1841-advipservicesk9-mz.124-24.T.bin, which I upgraded from and a number of older IOS verison.

I have also downloaded 4.0.0.18 (adsl_alc_20190.bin)

What is a known working config?

Thanks

I wasn't certain, but I am now.

If you have a look at the 'Show DSL' on the HWIC-1ADSL, and scroll down to where it has the upstream and downstream stats.

Does -2.5dB noise margin look normal to you?
It should be around 6dB for a stable connection.

4.0.0.18 should fix that problem.

Ahh yea, I was setting this up late last night.

I normally get around 5.5db - 6.1db on my Netgear.

Ill get the FW updated and see how it goes. :D

Will this firmware work on a HWIC-1ADSL or use the 4.0.018 ?

I have uploaded AMR-E-4.0.018.bin, what a difference! I now have a stable ADSL2+ connection. I need to call the ISP though as my BRAS profile is in a mess after the flapping from the old firmware.

I have also downgraded to 12.4(24)T and it seems to much more responsive.

Does the series 15.X firmware put extra load on the system? I guess its meant for the new generation of Cisco equipment rather then the last gen stuff.
