Speed Cameras on the M25

They have similar ones on the M1 and they were flashing like mad last week when the red circle speed limit was on (i was on opposite carriageway.)

I'm assuming they are only active when showing a speed limit inside a red circle, and not when its a number with the 4 flashing yellow lights?

This is correct, unless they are showing the NSL sign.

The "orange" speed limit signs are merely a recommendation rather than an actual limit, hence no red ring.

Were you going north from the M25? I think there was a faulty flash, it seemed to be going off constantly and I spoke to a few people who saw it so it was doing it for a while.

I didn't realise that the NSL logo on the gantry was a camera-armed NSL limit - I just presumed it was 'everything's back to normal, all systems go, re-engage warp'.
