never had a problem with my 290x other than a bit of coil whine which seems to have fixed itself now. no black screen or anything. Infact this is the first card that i bought at launch that has little to no issues.... Nvidia are always aweful with their launch cards

My launch 7970s were a lot worse than any launch Nvidia cards I have had. They are as bad as each other, however neither are awful. These days its expected for early adopters to be beta testers!

AMD having major black screen issues with 290/X GPU's

After reading Rangers thread, I decided to try and help him find a solution to his black screen problem but seems he hit on a point that AMD have not acknowledged (Not that I can find).

There is so many users reporting the same issues over and over in thread after thread. Maybe something deeper than driver issues? Not good advertising :(

This problem is really getting under my skin and starting to **** me off. AMD havent said crap about this problem, nothing, nada. And there seems to be no fixes so far.

Jesus ADGSHAWERHJNSTEGRA christ....

Its not the first time company's have kept quiet after putting so much money into developing a product and near the end of testing a fault shows up and it would cost x amount to fix it.

So they just keep quiet until the poo hits the fan, its all about the money.

I don't see anything that makes me think it isn't a driver issue, the fact its widespread and under different drivers doesn't mean its not a driver issue. It seems that if its anything specific its probably the way they use power tune.

AMD's silence on the matter thus far doesn't surprise me at all, worst case they are liars screwing consumers left right and center, best case they are frantically testing the fault themselves and identifying causes under reproducible situations and working on how to fix said issues before commenting or releasing fixes.

Out of the 2 I think its more likely something they will be looking into hard and working on fixing, hopefully its driver based or at worst bios based and not a hardware fault.

The best part about it is that the usual suspects who are quick to pounce on any negative NVidia press and make a big song and dance about it all tried their best to let it slip under the radar. :o

If it wasn't for Rangerjr1 there wouldn't even be a topic about which shows the bias at play here on OCUK.

Another comment intended to bait people into an nvidia vs amd debate, good way to get your point across!

Any bias will just come from he fact that people who come here and like to over clock will likely have a fondness for amd products they tend to offer a better price/performance ratio and play really nice with overclocking, a smarter consumer pays less for something they can get more out of, if you've been into computer building for more than 3 years chances are you've had an amd product and had a good deal more out of what you bought than the box suggested.

The issue has been discussed in threads other than the one ranger posted in.

Please don't detract from a genuine issue with silly fanboy wars, and let's hope something gets done either by one of us lot finding a solution or amd fixing it.

+1,

Black screen has been discussed at length in the 290/X threads, from what I gather its mostly unstable oc's or/and vram related with elpida chips, hopefully there will be a fix put in place soon for those affected.

Nvidia/Amd driver threads are the best place for info/help, no point filling the forum with duplicate threads to discuss the same topic as it's more helpful keeping the info in the one place.:)

Edited for the bacofoil crowd.
