OK.... so it comes with a GamingDock!

Docking and transforming, shift into the Elysium!
There is a specific GamingDock designed for GS30 Shadow and the overall graphics performance will be shifted to a higher level while GS30 Shadow is docking on it. By the inserted desktop discrete graphics card inside the GamingDock, more graphics calculation will be enhanced and more visual detailed will be revealed. Users can choose any desktop graphics card, which is stronger and more powerful, then easily insert into it to unleash the most stunning visual effect and deliver the most exciting gaming experience to gamers by full bandwidth of PCI-e x16. The GamingDock is no wonder the most powerful upgraded cannon for slim gaming laptops to play on those most performance demanding titles in highest resolution and settings.

Just to say the above a little more clearly :)

You can insert any brand DESKTOP GPU into the gaming dock, so your NB when docked will be just as good graphics wise as your desktop.

This means when newer laptop GPU's come out, you will not be worried about performance.

Use this NB with a 780TI if you like! The choice is yours!

Perfect for if you go away to uni, you can have a full desktop solution in your room, but a super high powered NB whilst you are at the library!

The dock can hold a normal HD for all your games too, whilst the NB holds 2 x SSD's.

^^ LoL

It's a dock, yes it will not win any prizes on looks, but if it works well it will have done it's job!

:p

Genuinly, I've been waiting for something like this. Will this dock be available for all laptops?

Whats the performance hit?

The dock, it's massive and you can't use the laptops keyboard as it's so high up.

Yes you can connect a keyboard and mouse but unless it's dirt cheap you may as well just have a separate desktop.

Surely it's just been put there for the photo?
If not as you say you might as well just get a desktop and then slap whoever came up with that.

Totally disagree!

So say you have a desktop...but you want to use something in the bedroom/living room or just in general for work in front of the TV. How is a desktop going to do that?

It's ultra portability with a desktop function to which you can place any desktop GPU in future proofing your NB.

If anything...it's much better than the average desktop and allot more functionality too.

To dock it, you will use a separate KB/MS like you would with a desktop, or how I would use my NB if connected at home.

I think, ideally it's for University students and people who are worried about GPU changes.

Hi,

It's only available on the GS30 on launch and will come as a bundle for you to choose your own desktop GPU to place inside.

So it docks on the top like the photos? Will this work with all notebooks?

Whats the performance hit? I'm thinking I can now finally buy a notebook which will push an oculus rift

P.s the dock is TINY.

I have seen it. Bare in mind that's a 13.3" NB. So the pic makes it look huge, but in real life it's just a few inches longer than a desktop GPU.

The performance is dependent on what GPU you put inside really.

It comes with 16GB DDR3 + 2 x SSD's with the option to put inside what HD you want into the dock.

I get that its gpu dependant, but will the dock allow a 780gtx to stretch its legs for example. Is USB 3 capable of transferring that amount of bandwidth?

I do believe the design would allow that yes. I don't think it docks through a USB port, but a specifically designed one.

When I was in Taipei, they showed me this unit (still in design stage) and they told me it will run a desktop GPU exactly like you were running it in a desktop, so I assume that still stands!

More information will come in the next month or so, so I will keep everyone updated.

The design of the dock may change too - but this is the concept design being released for Jan 2015 :)

Arjibear,

Am I right in saying the laptop will be released before dock..? If so when :)

They come as a bundle!

The dock will only work on that NB.

I am unaware of plans to make a dock for other ones as yet - but will keep you updated!

Release date is due for Jan 2015 :p
