thanks to my dog i am going to have to re turf my rear garden. the patch that needs doing is small, about 12ft x 20 ft. first i thought about grass seed bit it would probably look pants.
how much would it cost to re turf this size lawn? and what when is it best to do it?
thanks

best time from within next 2 weeks up till end of sept/oct.

Easy to do and can be cheap, depends on the quality of grass you want, turf is not that dear. just prepare the ground well before laying. But like most things you can get cheap and expensive. Just get a hard wearing turf

I have a dog and he screws my lawn up, one of those things im afraid. You can seed, just rope that section of lawn of. Up to you.

The perils of dog ownership im afraid.

i am no gardener so no idea what i am doing. i would need a hard wearing lawn as i have a baby who will be crawling come the summer.any idea how much a company would charge to supply and lay?

I dont know the cost to get someone in. It is not that hard to do yourselve. But if you dont want to do it yourself get a couple of quotes out of the yellow pages or local garden centres maybe able to help you.

Cant see it being that expensive......but im no expert..

Try this site, used to use them when i was in the landscaping business:

http://www.turfonline.co.uk/turf_calculator.php - Will tell you what you need in size.

Looking at usually £3 per metre to buy, and then a daily rate for laying. We used to charge £10 per hour and it would take two people to do it. The main cost is levelling the surface, if it's already flat then it's not too hard a job to do yourself, plenty of books about it. If you do it when sunny you need to make sure it is watered at least once a day.

I used these guys last year when I moved into my new house and did the lawn. I totally ripped away the old stuff, prepared the ground (which took a couple of weeks of digging, sifting, stomping and rolling) ordered my turf which came on Saturday morning on a pallet, rolled into position and then watered every day for about 2 weeks. I'd never laid a lawn before but it was very easy. The most important part of preparing the lawn beforehand.

All i know is Green side up :D

use rolawn turf, your local garden centre should probs sell it as long as it's not B&Q, i returfed my back garden last year, that was about 22ft x 12ft and cost about £80 iirc, i laid it myself. It looks fine.

I had to ponder the same question recently and with Spring getting nearer, though it was time to get a move on.

I decided it would be cheaper to buy some good quality grass seed and see how it goes.

Why dont you just chuck some grass seed down. Takes about a month to grow through.

Guess it depends how impatient you are. :p

Its not too difficult to do.
Just remember to lay it out like bricks:
