Gonna pull the trigger on either of these can't make my mind up anyone tried both ? k550 are £15 cheaper at £109.

will be for used at home plugged into a pioneer av receiver or my smartphone so music only would it be worth buying a head phone amp for the smartphone or is that overkill ? (seen one called TOPPING NX1 Portable Audio Amplifier) about 23 pounds, currently using some small akg 450s for music . fancy something with more bass.

any other's worth considering ?

cheers :)

Sony MDR-1A:

Plenty of bass, mids that are not recessed (unlike the DT770s) and smooth highs that aren't piercing, again, unlike the DT770s. They also have a decent sound stage for closed back headphones. They are light, stupidly comfortable and weigh in at £119 or a bit cheaper if you go for one of the warehouse returns, which is what I did and actually got them as new for under a hundred.

Are they as good as or better than the AKG K550 mkII? I couldn't say as I haven't heard that headphone but they are likely to have more bass with slightly less treble than the AKGs.
