Windows 10 Installation after new mobo

I'v read a couple things and it looks like i'm going to have to call MS after i'v put together my new MOBO / CPU / RAM.

Has this changed recently at all or is there something i don't know? I'm gonna try just plugging my SSD in and see if it boots at all, if yes then just reinstall from their.

Anyone have a definitive answer on the situation as what i have read is blogs / news posts, not someone in a forum with a definitive answer.

To reactivate? Yes you will have to call them.

SSD, HDD, RAM or anything other than a Motherboard swap is fine to do and Windows will be activated. The Motherboard holds the key and cant be moved or activated on another one.

Surely you could just tell them you updated the bios, or the motherboard failed?

With the most recently MS media created win10 install, it is version 1511.
With this version when you install, you can enter a licence key.
If you enter you old windows 7 licence key, it accepts it fine now.
It did for me, 24 hours ago when I reinstalled my parents PC, with a fresh format install, to a new motherboard.
Activation was automatic.

1511 change the need to ring them, and allows old retail (non-OEM) copies of win7 and win8 and win8.1 to be used using the licence key.

I did the same tonight, re-activated with my Windows 8 key after downloading the 1511 pack.

I did speak to Microsoft online chat.
