I plan on building a new system for next month. I haven't built one in 6 years so i'm slightly behind.
I want to spend £1300 max but anything leftover i'll put it towards a new monitor and keyboard.

Up to now I've come up with this but i'm unsure what the best Motherboard and PSU to go with it would be. I'm also going to be running dual 22-24" monitors.

  • CPU Intel Core i5 4690K
  • Memory 2 x 4GB DDR3-1600 Ripjaws (Or Corsair Vengeance? 8/16GB)
  • Motherboard
  • Hard Drive Samsung 850 500GB SSD / Crucial BX100
  • Storage WD Caviar Blue 1TB x 3
  • GPU Geforce GTX 970

I'll be using it for -

  • Some Gaming [GTA/Metal Gear]
  • Watching Blu Ray Videos
  • Editing in Photoshop/Illustrator
  • Extracting / Copying files [10-20gb in size]
  • Some Video Encoding

hasn't the 4690k got a stronger single core than the 5820k?

I understand the 5820k has 6 cores I just didint think it would beat the 4690k within games. I would have thought if anything a 4790k would be better suited for him.

that's just my thoughts.. I could be completely wrong here though.

4790k will be slightly better at games (and only very slightly - most are GPU limited) but seriously lags behind a 5820K in photo & video work, encoding, file compression etc.

Build looks awesome! @Cyanide but i think it might be an overkill for my use. I won't be doing that much encoding or photo/video editing - nothing on a professional level anyway.
I'm just going to be watching videos, extracting files, storing and doing general things on the net most of the time. I should have been clearer in my first post.

There's not as much in it as I thought to a 4790k

My basket at Overclockers UK:

Total: £1,173.41
(includes shipping: £0.60)

4690k comes in a bit cheaper, you're losing a lot of performance on the non-gaming stuff though

My basket at Overclockers UK:

Total: £1,081.01

then drop the ddr4 ram for this
Kingston HyperX 16GB 2400Mhz £89.99 with lifetime warranty

You can go with an air cooler to save further money :)

I love my air cooler.. it performs better than the H80i it replaced

I'm thinking about replacing the Hydro with a Noctua NH-D15 82.5 CFM. Also will i need to buy additional fans and mounting brackets if i buy the Enthoo Pro?

looking at the pictures it looks like it comes with a large 200mm front and either a 120mm or 140mm rear. you could get one for the roof if you wanted.
as for mounting brackets I think you should be fine.
