This is my dilemma too. I'd also likely want to upgrade to a 40 lane CPU too, so SLI is going to end up costing likely more than holding off for a 1080ti down the line and upgrading to a single card then - perhaps even wait until the 1180ti or whatever it ends up being marketed as.

I'm Air cooling mine. Top Card hits 70 - 75 depending on gaming or benching. I don't think that is too bad...?
I'm with you, my thoughts are to skip Pascal altogether and could not resist the prices of the Ti at the moment. Not run into any scaling or bottleneck problems either (yet) - both cards max out at 100% util during a bench.
I'm happy with SLi at the moment and I know that it should allow me to skip Pascal and when the next shiny 1180Ti turns up, i'll jump all over it.
Just need to pick up a superwide monitor now
That may have to go on hold as our first Child is due within the next month and I've heard they are costly buggers...Anyone clarify this for me? Pretty sure I'm gonna get a new card for the weekend and want to keep warranty after blocking it

I think its void, always used to be.
Zotac is a definite void. They even put void stickers over the screws.
I've had my MSI Gaming Edition 980ti for just over a year now and its been performing flawlessly but I recently decided to try and overclock it to see if i could get a bit more performance. At stock the card boosts up to 1380mhz and then throttles back slightly and fluctuates between 1340/1380mhz at 82 degrees with the default fan profile and I didn't want to increase the fan speed as i value quietness pretty highly. I was pretty dissapointed to find that the card is already at its thermal limit on the stock fan profile so there was no headroom to overclock it any more. 
Its already boosting itself way above the advertised factory overclock speeds so that was that, or so i thought!
On a whim i decided to change the TIM so i bought some thermal grizzly kryonaut and changed it over the weekend. I wasn't expecting much to be honest but it was worth a try....
Well it turns out this stuff is magic! The temp dropped massively so i started to overclock, pushing the core up and up and up and holy crap when will it stop! Eventually, with as much voltage as afterburner would allow the core started to show signs that it had hit the limits of its capabilities. I dropped the overclock back and settled in with the core now boosting up to 1550mhz!
But what of the noise Jeps? You must have set a seriously aggressive fan profile to achieve such lofty clock speeds? Well no, i didnt touch the fan settings at all. Still running the stock fan profile and the temps do not go above 75 degrees! Its actually running quieter then it was at stock!

That's crazy! I have a MSI Gaming 6G 980Ti too, and I've tried to overclock it but it's not even stable at +90MHz so I lost interest. For the sake of £11 I may try this stuff

Eventually, with as much voltage as afterburner would allow the core started to show signs that it had hit the limits of its capabilities. I dropped the overclock back and settled in with the core now boosting up to 1550mhz!
But what of the noise Jeps? You must have set a seriously aggressive fan profile to achieve such lofty clock speeds? Well no, i didnt touch the fan settings at all. Still running the stock fan profile and the temps do not go above 75 degrees! Its actually running quieter then it was at stock!

The work you've done here will make me rethink my lack of overclocking my 6G so thanks That's crazy! I have a MSI Gaming 6G 980Ti too, and I've tried to overclock it but it's not even stable at +90MHz so I lost interest. For the sake of £11 I may try this stuff
Did you have to break any warranty seals in order to apply it?
Yeah there was a sticker over one of the screws on the back that i had to punch through with a Philips head in order to remove the screw. The heatsink itself is only held on by the four screws around the core so it was a pretty simple job.

this is the 9th xtreme card purchased new/ 2nd which have been used for client custom builds
all the xtreme's I’ve had thus far have been great over clockers this is doing ok with stock bios 1543 8200 mem ...so may try custom bios this weekend.so to help with pref caps
The last xtreme i had on a custom bios hit 1588 core ..on average over 1500mhz with stock bios is not bad tbh

I really want to go SLI but finding another hydro copper is proving to be impossible.
Shame that I can't use a normal card with a block on but the ports won't line up with the Hydro ones.
