i wrote down all the bios settings earlier as I couldn't find the exact video i used to make the overclock seeings.
full system spec;
i5 25k
z68 pro gen 3 asus mobo
zalman 9+
7950 3gB msi twin frozr
8bg 1600mhz corsair ram
800W corsair psu
1050p monitor
150 bg hard drive

the hard drive is a weak point in the overall system and certainly the next things i will purchase would be an ssd, or a 1080p monitor for a clearer picture while gaming.

Hi there OC :)

can someone suggest best hardware choice for upgrade, mainly for gaming, but could use extra grunt for running resource hungry applications simultaneously on dual monitors.

gaming is online multiplayer.

current spec;

i5 25k
z68 pro gen 3 asus mobo
zalman 9+
7950 3gB msi twin frozr
8bg 1600mhz corsair ram
800W corsair psu
1050p monitor
1080p monitor
150 gb optical hard drive
250 gb ssd

I'm thinking more memory?

Alternatively to invest in another SSD, to dedicate to separate uses.

Thank you :)

the CPU is still more than capable.
whats youre budget for the upgrade?
you could drop in another 8gb ram or if youre feeling flush you could go for a newer GPU.
or you could look for a 2nd hand 7950 for a xfire set up but again you would be better getting another 8gb of ram to go with this.

If it is mainly for gaming another 8gb of ram isn't gonna help much. What are you using thats particularly ram hungry? If you want pure gaming increase then GPU is the only way to go and maybe add an OC to the CPU.

Best bet is to sell your 7950 and add that to the max budget you are willing to spend and buy the best single card. :)

ok thanks.

im not really flush enough to buy another gpu yet, but ill see how it fares up when the 1080p monitor arrives, im guessing some fps drop.

current budget is £100. though by NYs it can be £300 and maybe ill get a new gpu then, which would be the best thing to uprgrade.

i've got afterburner which I rely on to do my OC.

jbh your main rig looks really cool and tidy. i cant even work out where everything is lol - what are the specs?

cheers

yea I would hang off till you have the £300 and go for a 390x if you can.

the 7950's overclock well ive just upgraded from one with the gtx970 in my main rig.
the cable management in my main rig is superb and the PSU shroud really helps.
its specs are i5 4690k @ 4.5ghz, 16gb corsair vengeance 1600mhz @ 1833mhz, gtx 970 that was a 2nd hand bargain. using a phanteks PH-TC14PE CPU Cooler which is giving me cooler temps than the H80i it's replaced.

ohh should say.. I was using my old msi tf 7950 on 1080 and it handled it fine I was still getting decent performance. I had it over clocked to 1400 on the core and 1100 on the memory and it was sweet.

the 970 is a big step up if I had been paying anywhere near the right price for one though I would be sticking with Msi or going to gigabyte. my gainward doesnt overclock any where near as well as my old 7950 did.
