Upgrade only when games become semi unplayable. I've only just upgraded from a ATI 6950 2GB.

And in fact I could have still used that. Witcher 3 was still very playable at medium settings at 1900x1200. Only in Doom 4 was it a slide show. Every other game still played fine at that res. Tomb Raider etc.

As above depends really what settings you're happy with.

You won't be maxing out the latest and greatest games with a 270x unfortunately.

Something like the RX480 is affordable and will also allow you to play most games on high settings at least.

just pick up a new GPU within your affordable budget, the time to buy new hardware is now. You will eventually left behind in the end anyway.. such is the industry.

Limited to the max turbo you mean? Or does it actually have some proper overclocking options such as vcore etc? I know my wifes B85M-D3H can overclock my 4670k but I just haven't heard of anything but a G3258 being overclocked in a H87 board and even then only a couple of times.

***Edit*** Actually a quick Google shows that 4.4Ghz may be achieveable on this board but you have to be careful of the temps. I stand corrected. :o

You don't need to overclock your CPU to be honest, it's perfectly fast and in a lot of games will easily outperform an overclocked i5 for instance (BF1 is a good example).

If you only upgrade once every 5 years, I agree you might as well just get a GTX1070 now.

The 270's will net you back £130-150 or so.
