ah really, i thought it was too good to be true, i have a Gigabyte Z170-Gaming K3 motherboard running a i7 - 6700k, were can I find the details of what to change for my setup? thx
Make sure you're on latest BIOS and that it is set to default. Reset to default if in doubt. Set XMP for the memory.
Then go to Advanced CPU Core Settings:
http://postimage.org/
Once there, you're interested in the Turbo Ratio (for each core) and the Uncore Ratio. Leave everything else as is for now.
Change the Turbo ratios for each core to 45. Change Uncore Ratio to 44. Save and exit.
Run a bench or stress test. Cinebench is nice and short so it's pretty ideal for preliminary checks. Keep eye on max CPU temp and max Vcore. If it doesn't crash, and CPU temp is within reason and Vcore is within reason (try stay under 1.4v for now), then enter BIOS again and increase the values you tinkered with, by 1. i.e. Turbo Ratios to 46 and Uncore Ratio to 45.
Rinse and repeat. Report back here when you crash or when Vcore starts to exceed 1.4v or temps are a bit high (over 80C would be particularly high for Cinebench).
Doing the above, the Gaming K3 I played with automatically set a max 1.366 Vcore for an i7-6700K at 4700MHz, which is great, so I left it there. Performance will vary from cpu to cpu.
