Hi all,

So I'm putting together a list of parts for my new rig. As I haven't built one in over 5 years I'm new to m.2 storage.

They seem on the surface anyway compatible in price with Sata ssd. What's the potential downside to going with a m.2 drive over a Sata drive ?

Any opinions would be amazing

m.2 are generally quicker than your standard SSD, but they can still be slightly more expensive €/GB. Plus they're a great option for space saving.

None that I can see apart from the lack of RAID options. If you're wanting a single drive for the OS / programs and then keeping files on a separate larger HDD they're perfect. Some of the cheaper ones can look fugly in green but nothing a dirt cheap heatsink from the Bay can't solve in 5 seconds :)

The only downside is £ per Gb, they're quicker (although in real world you wouldn't notice this) and they also don't need cables so make for a better airflow in the case, paired with a larger Hdd for games and storage they're a great option if you want to pay the extra.
