ram conflict?

hey guys,

I have had 2x4gb of Avexir Core Blue 2666 in my PC for the last 3 year and i recently bought a set of Avexir Core White 2133 to add to it (not being able to find the same 2666 version). I thought these would be fine together and would be able to achieve 2600ish fairly easily. But i am having a nightmare with the machine when all 4 RAM sticks are installed. Ive tried different configurations in the ram slots, different voltages and even significantly increased the timings just to see if it stabilised but it always reboots. I have both Mac and Windows installed and it does it on both systems. I tried to reset the BIOS to see if that helped by running everything at stock inc overclock but still no good. Im at a lost cause :S

the part numbers for both sets of RAM are;

AVD3U26661104G-2CI
AVD3U21331104G-2CIW

any advice would be much appreciated!

Man the SPD on these sticks will be totally different. This is why your having issues. Should run at jdec 1600 mhz but anything above this is often a pain ass.

Try running 2133mhz with the timings of the slower kit first across both. Then tune from this.

Yeah I didn't realise when I bought the second kit, it popped up on eBay and I nabbed it. I didn't really want to upgrade everything just yet as it runs everything great but I was starting to hit the top end of 8gb so hit the nail on the head before it was too late.

what's the best way of testing ram stability? I've never really had to check before so I'm a bit of a noob at this point.

Why not sell them on and get another kit of 2666?

If I come across some I will, I wanted one to match in blue or white but haven't came across one other than a gold set which would just look plain stupid haha

But tbh, I would be happy to get them both to achieve 2400, give and take a little for stability. I don't know if ivy bridge can fully utilise 2666 anyways

What's the best way of tweaking these timings? Don't quite understand ram clocking, would it be better to achieve 2600 or lower timings?

managed to get the timings down to 2400 @ 10-13-13-31, i know the importance of CAS and Speed, but what of the other denominators?

Am i right in saying that technically 2400 @ CAS 10 is faster than 2600 @ CAS 11?

I don't think it really matters in all honesty.

For gaming your fine.

Try 10-12-12 first also try tuning twcl. This will give you a little performance.
