5960k overclocking

Good afternoon, I've recently purchased a 5960k, gigabyte x99 Ud4, 16gb of team dark 3000mhz ram it's currently in a watercooled loop just for the CPU.

After hours on prime my hottest core was 55 degrees so I'm deciding to overclock it nothing major but I was wondering if you had the rough settings for me 8 pack just to get to say 4.2 if something higher is easily achievable that'd be great.

Any sort of input would be fantastic.

You have your mems at 3000mhz on 125 strap?

Set this up first.

Then go 1.25v, 125x34 for 4250mhz test. Don't bother with Prime just use.

Or go with 3200 as most 3000 kits will with ease at 2T and its a much better ratio staying on 100 strap.

Really its not a better ratio or for OC by staying on the 100 strap at all. They are very much the same with 125 edging it slightly for performance.

How do I set up 3000Mhz on a 125 Strap. Simply make the strap 125 and multiply it until it's 3000 so 24?

What would you recommend to test temperatures AIDA64?

I wouldn't bother using anything synthetic Snodge , Open core temp and just use your PC as you would and regularly check the temperatures . If playing games is the must demanding thing you do, play games, if you render ect do some rendering. Stuff like prime 95 and AIDA64 never give a real world reading for temps. And often also give un realistic readings of stability.

Depends what frequency you are after. 3200 is far happier on the 100 strap Ian, not sure why you'd think otherwise? Only reason for users to use higher straps on this platform is if the desired DRAM frequency is more stable, there is no performance benefit there. Using a higher strap alone there is no reason for performance to change as the CPU frequency will know no difference.

It's possible to run 3200 on 1.25 with tuning and without concessions but there is no point.

(He is running 3000mems so 1.25 strap is the native one to choose -Pack)

All I want is to run my RAM at 3000mhz and maybe my CPU at 4200?

3000 is much happier on 125 strap, my original point was if you can get the kit to run at 3200 you can remain on 100 strap and make use of adaptive core voltage. Start by running at XMP on 125 strap with 3000 though and come back if you hit any road blocks

For this OC it should be very easy and basic.

Test using XTU stress test if you want to use synthetic stuff. Intel recommend this themselves.

The UD4 does not have OC socket so you have to push ancillary voltages to get 3000mhz stable.

When I tried to enable XMP 3000mhz it fails to boot. I'll try these settings now

Which mems exactly are these ones???

I can't find the cache multiplier 24 or VCCIN OR SA settings at all in my bios

use the classic mode.

Go into bios and press F2

They are under voltage control CPU Core volts. Cache Ratio is under Frequency control. Sub menu.

X99 Deluxe, sorry I had it in my head he had the Champion for some reason
