HI all,

I am needing to replace a 1TB Western Digital RE4 SATA Hard Drive

Would any 1TB Western Digital RED drive be a good match?

I think RE4 is another naming convention for Western Digital RED

Although RE4 seem to not be in circulation anymore,

RE4 drives were desgined for enterprise and for servers, mainly as they will be on all the time, not normal desktop drives.

Cool, I will look at Red Pro as a replacement,

There are 2 x RE4s in the box, however one gave me disk errors in RAID1 alerts flooding my inbox, and now its not showing as one of the physical and lost out the cluster.

Im going to see if I can recovery it by a removal, and re-seat, if not I will need a replacement to add back in and rebuild.

You can still buy WD RE disks. They are vastly superior to the rest of the WD range as their URE rate is 10^16 vs 10^15 on red pro and red being 10^14. The manufacturer code is WD1003FBYZ and the going rate seems to be around £80-90.

Yeh seen them about, but a bit expensive, its going in a HP microserver which is running RAID1 and used as a file server aswel as a few other bits.

Heading down there in the morning to see if I can get the one drive back online and see if there is a phyical reason why it was erroring in RAIDXpert then disconnected out of the cluster and lost.

Really only looking to spend £40-£50 on a 1TB red drive of some sort.
