RAID 0 Problems with Maxtor DiamondMax 10

I bought 2 Maxtor 200Gb SATA2 disks from OCUK and am trying to get them to work in a RAID 0 configuration. I get into the RAID Util, add the disks and create click F7 but nothing happens HDD light is on. It has been sitting like this for at least an hour!

HELP please?

Bit more info please. like do you mean you dont even get to part where XP sees sata hdd and your ready to install it ?, or you dont even get by building the array ?.
 
is it only maxtor drives on the sata links? they are known for their problems with seagates and the odd Western Digital. do you get to the XP install bit where it asks you to press f6 to install a 3rd party raid or scsi driver?
 
If you have an Nforce 4 board there are problems with Certain Sata maxtor drives and Nforce 4... that maybe your problem. There is a fix available from maxtor but they dont like to give it out plus there email service is slow! your best option is to return the drives for some seagates.

Quoted for truth (damn starred Q F T). Maxtor DM10's had bad controller problems with nF4.

Return for a different brand - Hitachi, Seagate or WD :)

I have found similar articles on other forums with the nForce 4 as some of you guys have said. I am returning for some Seagate or Hitachis.

i have the official maxtor firmware fix for these drives.

i have the same drives as you and they are now running very happily in a raid0.

TBH, I would still return it. The Hitachi's are faster and more reliable than the fast but unreliable maxtors.
 
Augustus, don't suppose you have the firmware upgrade for 6V300F0 drives do you?
Tried Maxtor customer services, but loathe to give it out :(
 
It's a wonder these firmware files havn't been released to the Internet yet through Maxtor customers who've phoned up (or emailed) for them. I emailed them a week ago and got a reply yesterday asking for more information about the problem, sent them a reply, but ill probably never hear from them again :rolleyes:
 
What FW version please?
I've got two of these here, bought 6mths apart and the BACE1G10 firmware drive is considerably quieter than the older one.

Does the firmware work for all Diamond Max 10's or is there different firmware for different part id's?

If not then could someone e-mail them to me please.
