There seem to be price rises of about £30+vat going round the e-tailers... strange given the 7900 is coming out, I'd have thought ATI would even cut prices - not raise them.

OcUK not affected yet - but could be likely once new deliveries appear, but x1900xt seem to have gone from £289-£300+VAT to £320-£330+VAT

Good job I bought yesterday :D - thought about holding off to see if ATI reduced for the 7900 launch, but couldnt wait.

maybe ATI know something about the pricing/performance of the 7900?
I think now would be a bad time to buy them incase nvidia pull something above expectation out of the bag... but sure, if someone gambles it could be a decent payoff should the 7900 suck :)

Interesting. Had a look around and prices do appear to have risen by around 30 quid to be comparable to OcUK's prices of couple of days ago. Other places seem to have not changed at all, and OcUK prices appear to have dropped by about a tenner or so on the X1900XTs.
All since Monday (which was when I bought my X1900XT).

Do people think that's true and accurate as was planning on getting a x1900xt in next couple weeks and i'm not what you call patient.

Gibbo has mentioed that X1900 rpices will liekly rise.
Many sources have stated that ATI are unhappy that some AIBs are underselling X1900s and have instrcuted them to raise prices to gain margins.
And according to that X-bit articlr the 7900s will still be cheaper and faster than the X1900s after their price cut.

The link shows "After the price-drop, the Radeon X1900 XTX – the current flagship of ATI – will cost $549, the Radeon X1900 XT will drop to $479, while the Radeon X1800 XT products with 512MB or 256MB should cost around $299 (512MB version will cost higher than that). Additionally, ATI is expected to introduce Radeon X1800 XL 512MB for $299 and drop the price of the Radeon X1800 XL 256MB."

These are all recommended retail prices, the actual prices are allready below this in the states (at most places), so there may not be any "actual" price drops. It also takes longer for these effects to flow on to the rest of the world.

The way i see it, the only reason Nvida would undercut the X1900XT/XTX with its 7900GTX is if it new its cards were underperforming, as Nvidia have never undercut the prices on their topend cards before.

cant see em going up personally, technology comes down in price not up.

well two of the major online retailers in the manchester area have BOTH put up ALL their X1900 prices - for all models. Not looked elsewhere, but I'd expect similar results. I was looking at going to one of them at the weekend, but weakened and bought from OcUK - seems like a good plan at the moment. Original plan had been to see if the 7900 launch pushed prices down...

I do not see these incrases as being permanent, maybe stock shortage, or possibly trying to make the XT priced just below the 7900GTX (someone will know the price).

An how did a bit of scouting about and there are still at least 3 reputable Etailors with Powercolor X1900XT @ £289+VAT.

Nothing to see here, move along :p

nothing new though is it, didnt ocuk put the prices up for 7800gtx 512mb's not long ago.
supply and demand and all that like

OR if NV was aiming to get SLI as a mainstream product for the high end, with quad SLI at the extreme end.

This is exactly what nvidia are planning to do- they are changing the whole rules of the game. For the £400 you can get 2 top end Nv card in SLi (2 X 7900GTs on a sinlge card) for £550 you will be able to get 2X 7900GTx on a sinlge card (once prices have leveled after the initial vendor fest).

You're missing the whole point of Nvidias smaller, quiter, cooler, less power hungry 7900.

I'm holding off buying an X1900 till ATI slashes the prices when the 7900 is released. X1900 is just so nice, I really have my heart set on one now. The new RD580 motherboard looks VERY sweet too. may be time for a vendor change methinks. :)

Granted that could be the case, but the 7900GT cards will be facing the 512MB X1800XL, 256 & 512MB X1800XT as well as the 256MB X1900XL. Thats a lot of competition. These can be run in crossfire too & its likely they will be priced according to Nvidia,s card pricing, once thats settled anyway.
The 7900GTX will face the 512MB X1900XT & XTX cards. More stiff competition.

Now as for quad SLI, it has been shown that ATI cards can run in quad crossfire, albeit on low end ATI models. And i can imagine that if Nvidia start pushing quad SLI, then ATI will start going quad crossfire too (same as they did with the crossfire). Though i imagine that for ATI's topend cards to do this ATI might want to do a die shrink.

In the end it should all be pretty close, once agin.

SLI has a lot of problems and going mainstream now isnt the best idea in the world:
*cost: 2 gpus / 1gb of ram. ouch.
*cost: psu.
*limitation: cpu bottlekneck galore for anyone who doesnt play in 1600x1200 and above. that resolution is far from mainstream.
