With the apparent fix of using the 2nd card in the x8 blue slot to solve audio problems with what appears to be any make of sound card and even the onboard sound, exactly how common is the problem?

Can you post what sound card you have and what slots you're using. Please only vote if you have 8800 SLI.

Thanks,

I voted no, I have a 7950GX2 an no problems at all, i know this is obviously different from using both sli slots

Hmm, you clearly missed the bit that says "Please only vote if you have 8800 SLI". Maybe you need a bigger monitor? :p

Guys make sure to flash the bios through the bios using a floppy disc. Using the windows update will fail. It doesn't work with this bios and board. So get a floppy disc player if you haven't got one already. It has been confirmed at XtremeSystems that this beat bios will help a lot with the issue if you update with a floppy disc. Doing it through windows will still flash the bios to the version but none of the fixes will have been applied

Also yes reinstalling the latest direct X or updating has also been helping people.

Not sure how come the changing the lane thing works as I thought the 8800gtx has to be used in a 16x lane with full speed.

Well tried this BIOS and it's been a bit of a disaster, using it has severely impacted graphics performance.

Not a fix in my book.

Could even be something to do with the drivers I suppose, but ever since flashing it's killed my performance, it's as if Vsync is set to 30fps it's that bad.

Going to reinstall windows and start with a clean system again.

Jokester, I have come across that issue a couple of times, seems when I try one of the qaa options it occasionally upsets it and kills performance.
No mater what setting I try thereafter it stays that way until video drivers are removed via add/remove and re-installed :(
This happens with both available driver sets for the 8800.
I would say its a driver issue as it happened before the bios flash too.
New bios seems ok for me so far.

I did have the mobo drivers from cd installed, but now have the latest ones from nvidia.
I haven't tested to see if thats cured it as I don't want to go through it again :p

I agree, and they seem pretty sharp at looking into issues which is a big plus :)

All I need to do know is find a way of cooling the chipset thats less noisy than the stock supplied fan, its liveable but as all my system and cpu fans are quiet ones, I would like to silence this ... what have others done for this ?
running it slower obviously helps, but not sure how it affects temps under load, ntune doesn't show the chipset temp does it ?
