Not to bad considering, wonder how fast the ultra compares to say a 7900GTX ?

I wonder when these cards will be ready to buy in the shops, and for that matter when the "less memory same performance" 8800 GTS is going to be released.

What physics have you been running on your 7600gt then?

GPU accelerated physics is not available in any game.

There are a few tech demos out but that is about it.

Who said anything about games....

I too am very interested in finding out when the "less memory same performance" 8800 GTS is going to be released, I am having a very hard time convincing my mates to wait a lil longer for affodable DX10, they all think it is best to get the top end dx9 now that they are cheaper

Hopefully the less memory should not be a problem as they all play at 1280 by 1024 (&other varients around that res) so with a bit of overclocking these cards should be at least on par with my 8800gtx with all goodies on @ 1680 by 1050

It's not even been confirmed that it exists yet.

They're right, because DirectX 10 is no reason to buy an 8800/8600 Series. Faster DirectX 9 performance is currently the only reason, and will be for quite some time I assure you. See: Shader Model 3.0.

hmmm 512MB 8600 Ultra or 320MB 8800

The 8800 320MB defo I'd say if you're going to be gaming using FSAA with 1600x1200, those shader units will come in with a mighty punch when you fire up games, not to mention almost "free" FSAA with little fps hit - My 7950GT 512MB is an awesome card but I can feel it taking the heat under newer games as I use 16xAF and 4xFSAA in most titles, the FPS hit is also quite considerable on G7x processors :/ Time for an upgrade !

Though the thought of SLIing 2x 8600Ultra seems to be promising considering Developers working on DX10 games coming out this year and next have stated full support for SLi - would be interesting to see the comparison between these cards first though.

I think his paycheck from nVidia has arrived! :p :D

Its obvious that no will want any old gen ATi cards when you can get new gen cards for around the same price, look at the x1950 XTX, everyone knows that is worthless and that everyone is buying the 8800 GTS instead, well its going to happen to the x1950 XT/pro etc... now when these come out, its a fact, who the hell wants an old gen ATi card when they can buy a new gen card for around the same price, Nvidia cards are the ony ones to buy, and before anyone says it, its not about Dx10, its Dx9, these next gen cards are being bought for Dx9, and ATi can not compete in Dx9, look at Nvidias new gen 8800 GTX, its a single card, and its faster than 2x of ATi's top end cards TOGETHER, they can not compete in Dx9.

I have an ATi card, but if i was upgrading then my only choice would be to buy Nvidia, as it will be everyones who's upgrading, all ATi's cards are old.
