Gigabyte 965P_DS3 - are OCUK stock Rev1 or Rev2 ?

I see from Gigabyte's site there is a revision 1 and revision 2 of this board.

Does anyone know what the differences are ?

And if anyone has got one recently from OCUK, were they rev1 or rev2 ?

I've asked via the webnote and they say they can never guarantee what revison you'll get.... which means I may have to buy elsewhere :o

I would think it is against the rules to ask that question...

I don't have another source at the moment, but I will certainly try to find one if OCUK can't guarantee a rev2. OCUK will get the other components of course.

well, i just read the rules and i think i didn't do anything against them.
my post was not intended to advertise any other shop but to get informed as a customer to make the best buy.

anyway...an unanswered question is still waiting :p

Rev 2.0 motherboards are not yet released. I think you will find that OcUK will be running down stocks on the Rev 1.0 boards (like by putting the DS3 on special offer?) and it will be very obvious when the Rev 2.0 boards are available. What feature of the Rev 2.0 board did you particularly want?

Hi. You are new and everyone here wants you to stay around. Take it from me - asking for someone to PM you where they can get a product on sale at OcUK is a breach of the forum rules. You say you have read the rules and you couldn't see where you were in breach. I'm copied them for you below and highlighted the possibilities. OcUK Forums are much tighter than other boards where you can swear and name names etc.

OK - examples of things you may not do...

i suppose there is no spec change in rev2 but stability  issues?
i really don't know and that's why we are asking.
obviously there will be an improvement of something :D

I have no idea, because I don't know what the differences are !!

On the website the rev2 says "Quad core optimised", and since I'm building a quad, that will be good, asuming ti isn't just marketing-speak

If the rev2's aren't actually in the market I may look at other options as well

thank you for welcoming me :)
that's why i asked for a PM. i don't think that these rules apply for PMs too.

anyway. the answer is to wait for a few more weeks until ocuk (and not only) will sell all of their rev1 DS3 mobos.

thank you :)

Or esle go for one of the Asus P5B models or DFI Infinity 975X or similar if you can't wait

Check out the current thinking on the newer BIOS's for the DS3. They have improved some areas, but they have wrecked the overclocking. I think if I was looking to buy a new board right now (and I've bought 7 different types of motherboard since July 2006) I would be asking about the differences between the 2 types.

Those differences are;

rev.1.0 Realtek ALC883 Sound chip vs. rev.2.0 Realtek ALC888 Sound chip
rev 1.0 No Firewire vs. rev 2.0 Firewire! (this is why I said the change would be obvious)
rev 1.0 Unshielded PWM Inductors vs. rev 2.0 Shielded PWM Inductors

The first 2 changes have been made to make the motherboard compliant with Vista Premium specification, the last to improve the Electrical Emissions rating. My guess is that there will be a small price-hike with the rev 2.0 boards so if you don't need the Firewire or the improved S/N ratio of the ALC888 series sound processor, I'd be very tempted to buy the rev 1.0 which is known to be a good clocker, unlike the rev 2.0 which is largely untested.

The ASUS P5N-E Sli is also an excellent option if you can't wait.

P5B-E Plus - £112
P5N-E - £88
DS3 Rev 1.0 - £82

All are very good boards. All pretty much overclock the same, have almost identical features (unless you need more than 4 SATA ports and Firewire) but the P5N-E has 2 PATA/IDE channels so you won't cripple your existing optical drive performanmce by sharing 2 on one PATA port.

I think I'd need a pretty good reason to spend an extra £30 on a P5B-E over the DS3.

Good point - my only concern would be that the rev1 DS3 ships with a BIOS that won't boot with a Quad Core CPU - or do all boards at least boot with the quad core CPU in place but only recognising two cores perhaps, which is good enough to then flash

The P5N-E almost certainly ships with a quad core compatible BIOS which removes some doubt. Looks like a nice board actually
Serious overclocking isn't required, I imagine I may take the quad core up to 3.0-3.2 gig or so, only 20% at most

is it possible to name the most stable one for c2d? (if >1 were used with c2d)

i have faced a lot of problems with asrock nforce2 that i could even go for an intel plain expensive mobo!!!!! (which would definately be stable and reliable)

OK - so you need to be certain that the Rev 1.0 you buy will have the F8 BIOS flashed already! I understand. I think you would have to contact OcUK and ask them to flash the BIOS for you to be certain. On previous attempts they haven't wanted to do that, but who knows now?
